Ch.3: Family Reunion

Mae's POV

"YOU'RE MY HALF BROTHER." I scream, taking a step back.

"AND YOURE THE REASON WHY MY FOLKS HATE EACH OTHER" He screams back at me with rage in his eyes.

"Hey! It's not my fault your mom cheated on your dad with mine!" I said defending myself.

"I HATE YOU" He says pacing around looking at me with hate.

"ME? WHAT! If anything I had NOTHING to do with this." I say, "I just want to meet my birth mom!"

"Meet her? You actually WANT to meet her? Be my guest she's making a turn right now." He says pointing at a rusted up jacked car coming around the corner.

A lady comes out. Under eye bags are major and her hair was super curly.. My mom..

"Who are you?" She says bitterly at me.

"Hi.. I'm- I'm your daughter." I say sticking my hand out so she could shake it.

She looks at my hand and declines. I quickly take my hand back.

"A daughter? I don't have a- oh. You. HAHA never thought I'd live to see the day. You look a lot like your father. Straight hair. Tan skin." She says examining me, "so what do you want?"

"I don't know. I just wanted to meet my birth mom.." I say.

"Well you met me. Now go back to your dad." She says looking at me blankly, irritated almost.

She sees a man coming towards the house and looks at him in utter hate. And storm inside the house.

"Who the hell is this?" The man asks Johnny.

I looked at Johnny with pleading eyes but he didn't see.

He was so focused into his fathers eyes with fear but also hatred in his, "that's moms daughter from that guy." Johnny says.

"SO YOURE THE GUYS KID. Useless piece-a' trash." He says as he pushes me down to the ground, and storms into the house as well.

Soon enough I heard loud voices going at each other and a vase crashed.

I looked at Johnny with tears brimming my eyes. He looked at me with empathy.

"C'mon kid.. We'll go back to the Curtis' house.." He says helping me up. Silent tears fall from my eyes. I've never been called trash and my birth mother didn't even care to see me..

We got to the Curtis' house and the gang saw me, "what's wrong kid?" Soda asks wiping my tears.

"I found my birth mom.. She didn't care. Not one bit. She laughed.. I found my half brother though.." I say and looked at Johnny.

The gang widened their eyes.

"YOU'RE JOHNNY'S SISTER." They say in unison.

"Half, but yes.." I say.

"This is a lot to take in for you.. Get some rest. Go into Pony and Soda's room, Mae. I think Pony's at his desk reading. You can just go and take a nap on there bed for a bit." Darry says, "Down the hall into the right."

"Actually.. It was 11 when I got here and It's already 1:45 and my step mom is coming to pick me up at 2 so I should get going. Thanks for everything guys. I'll see you around." I say and smile.

They all looked bummed that I had to leave.

"Wait before you go, have someone walk ya." Soda says, "Johnny go."

Johnny's POV

I look at Soda, "uhm.. Soda can I talk to you for two seconds in the kitchen? Real fast." I ask. He nods.

We get to the kitchen, "I'm not comfortable walking her. I know she's my sister, or half sister.. whatever. but her old man.. and I guess her too.. is the reason why my folks started fighting and the reason they beat me now.. I can't stand to look at her without seeing the reason why my family fell apart." I say hoping he'd understand.

He did, "alright buddy. I get where you're coming from. I'll get Ponyboy to walk her, but you know you'll have to face her some day."

He's right..

We go back to the living room and I ignore everyone's eyes on me as I sit down.

Soda goes to tell Ponyboy to walk her and than they leave.
