-1 year later-

"Hey," I walked up to my old friend.

"Hey, sunshine." Louie spoke sadly.

"I'm sorry about Harry." I said placing my hand on his shoulder, he put his hand over mine, holding it.

"He was a good gunner." Louie said and I hummed, "And a good guy." I leaned my head on my best friends shoulder.

When WII started the Olympic Games were canceled, and I enrolled without knowing Louie enrolled in the Air Force, too.

We were at base camp, and Louie just got back from a mission with his team and they lost a man in the chaos.

"Come on, Lou, let's go inside for awhile." I sighed.

Everyone thought we were together or something, but we weren't.

I've been waiting for Louie to actually kiss me or tell me how he felt but it seemed impossible some days.

I kissed his dark hair before we broke apart and went into the cafeteria for some food.

--

"Ready? Go!" I shouted as I sped up in the little topless automobile, Louie ran beside me, keeping up.

We drove past some of our fellow cadets and such as we went down the dirt road where everyone went to run.

We slowed down to check his time, "Oh, boy!" He laughed as he looked at the stop watch and then at me.

His torso was exposed, "4:12. You're getting close." I smiled with one hand on the wheel.

I turned when a car horn honked, I turned in my seat to face Louie's crew.

"Wrap it up, speedy!" Phil laughed as the whole car stopped beside me.

"Huh?" Louie said leaning on the car I was in, "We've got a mission." One of them spoke.

"Huh?" Louie repeated.

"Not a combat mission. Rescue. We're gonna need the Golden girl, too. We're short staffed." One of his crew members said nodding towards me.

"B-24 en route to Kanton, never made it, so looks like those boys ditched." Another said.

"A lot of ocean." Louie said and Phil nodded, "Yeah.. And, uh, they got us some new crew." He said gesturing towards the back of the car where three boys sat.

"Did you get a new plane?" I smirked because while in battle, something happened with their brakes so they had to do a small crash landing, but it worked- no one got seriously hurt.

Some of them started giggling as they shook their heads yes.

--

"This is like sitting in the living room, trying to fly the house." One of the Pilots, Pillsbury, spoke.

"They've been taking parts off this for other planes. We're lucky it's still got an engine." Phil sighed.

I smirked as I sat crouched down between them before I stood up, "Lot of ocean." Louie spoke from behind me.

"Yeah, lot of ocean." I sighed as he stood off to the side, behind me.

"So, uh, duck walks into a bar, right?" Pillsbury started and I smiled.

"Or, waddles, if you will." He shrugs and I softly chuckled as I looked over at Louie, he smiled at me.

"So, he walks into the bar, he says to the bartender, 'can I have a crème de menthe?'" Pillsbury was interrupted by one of our engines blowing out.

Louie grabbed my waist to steady me, Pillsbury and Phil started talking quickly, radioing the new engineer.

Louie pulled me back away from the cockpit before the second engine blew out.

"Prepare to crash." Phil radioed some of the scariest words.

We put on life vests before we could over hear Phil trying to radio base, "Mayday, mayday, mayday. This is Green Hornet. We are going down." It was terrifying hearing him shout those words.

Louie pulled be down onto the ground as we felt the plane starting to nose dive.

I sat on ground with him, he put his arms over me as he held onto some safety handles.

I hid my face in the crock of his neck, "Remember when- when you listened to the tryouts on the radio?" He tried to remind me of when I listened with his family on the radio when he was trying out for the Olympics.

"I-I remember." I stammered, holding onto him tightly.

The whole town listened, but on the porch and lawn, whereas I was like part of the family.

I smiled as I remembered listening the announcer talking about how America's Louie Zamperini caught up in the last few seconds, earning his place in the Olympics.

A loud crashing noise hurt my ears before I was separated from Louie, we both yelled before the whole plane filled up with water.

Once it went down I ran to Louie was was pinned under a gun that wasn't tied down properly.

I yelled as I tried to move it but it wouldn't budge.

"Go, now, you have to." Louie said as the plane started to sink into the blue ocean.

I shook my head, "I'm not leaving you." I spoke sternly before holding my breath as the plane was filled with water again.

My ears felt like popping as we started to sink.

Once we got down to a certain pressure, the medal shifted and Louie was free, but unconscious.

I swam out of a window before he woke up, we both pulled out cords and went up about 20feet before reaching the surface.

We both gasped as our lungs filled with air, my hand still held Louie's  tightly.

The only crew we could see was Phil and Mac, one of our gunmen.

Mac held Phil's head because he hit it and now it was bleeding pretty steadily.

A/N the ultimate babe: Bryana Holly is who I picture as Deja ((I name her Deja in all my stories and it's always Hollz- but i don't regret a thing)) I'll post pictures of her too but you'll just have to imagine her in WII attire
