L O U I E

I jumped at every sound, hoping I'd see Deja walking across the yard- happy and healthy.

But that was long shot-- the longest shot, I should say.

It's been two whole days since that whole ordeal went down and no one has seen or heard from Deja at all.

I went back to the barracks at every chance I got, checking for Deja.

I checked in the infirmary, too.

The whole day went on like this, checking her normal spots whenever I had the chance.

At night assembly Watanabe came out beat and tidy, as usual.

After being dismissed, I caught a glimpse of a messy blonde braid walking across the yard.

"Deja.." I spoke under my breath before I caught up to her, "Hey, hey." I said as she turned towards me.

I breathed deeply as I took in her appearance, her cheek was bruised right under her eye and her neck had dark markings on it like she had been choked.

"You.. You look like you." She smiled halfheartedly because last time she saw me my face was swollen and beaten severely.

"You.. Don't." I spoke breathlessly as we started walking towards the barracks.

"Don't worry about me, I'm fine." She spoke weakly, I noticed she was dragging one of her legs.

"That's all I do-- is worry about you." I stammered.

"What happened to your leg?" I asked and she slightly shook her head, "He popped my knee out of place, and once he left I popped it back in. It's just sore now." She spoke hollowly.

"Deja.." I paused as we stopped walking once we reached the barracks, I helped her onto my bed before I sighed, "What happened to you in there?" I asked, scared of the answer.

"Don't ask questions when you don't want to know the answers." She spoke as she winced when I touched her side.

I looked up at her and she gave me the go ahead, a small nod.

I slowly lifted up the side of her shirt to see intense bruising along her ribs.

"How badly does it hurt?" I asked, "On a scale of 1 to 10?" She smirked as she asked.

I nodded, "Twelve." She sigh heavily but then winced, when your ribs are that severely bruised, it hurts to do anything.

"You'll sleep on my bed tonight, okay?" I said and she slowly nodded, not even arguing with me which meant she must be really hurt.

"Louie?" She spoke before I was about to jump onto her bunk.

"Yeah?" I said looking over at her, "Can you sleep with me?" She asked slowly, and quietly.

I nodded with my lips parted, the other men started to come in for bed too, Fitzgerald, Tinker and Miller stopped at my bunk.

"How's she doing?" Miller asked as Deja quickly fell asleep, laying her head on me.

I slightly shook my head as a lump grew in my throat, "Not good, sir, not good." I said looking up at my friends.
