I was barely awake when I heard an officer commanding in Japanese, I sighed as we stood up straight after bowing.
Another officer shouted and Fitzgerald walked up to the front of the camp.
He shouted, finishing us group by group.
--
After a little morning stretching, The Bird came out to greet us.
"There is much talent in Omori Camp." Watanabe said with a clipboard as he waltzed around.
He named an opera singer, a chef from Australia, and an Olympic athlete..
My body shook, partially from the cold weather, and partially because Watanabe is going to kill Louie.
He asked who the Olympic athlete is twice before Louie raised his arm.
One thing led to another and soon Louie was about to race a healthier Japanese man.
The gun fired in the air and the two men took off, it was then I noticed I was standing beside Commander Fitzgerald.
I held my breath as a cold breeze covered the camp, all the Japanese guards yelled for their fellow man as I watched in anxiety, hoping Louie wouldn't kill himself.
I don't know how, but Louie ran around three of the large buildings, trailing behind the obviously healthy and fit Japanese man.
They came around the last corner, the guard finished way ahead, while Louie fell to the ground.
He rested his head on the ground as he contemplated weather or not to stand up.
"Don't get up." Fitzgerald spoke quietly and I looked over at him, "He's never been one to give up, sir." I spoke quietly, "Even if it kills him." I said looking back at Louie to see him standing from the dirt.
He jogged a few yards before he fell again, his legs giving out near the finish line.
He laid down on his back, as The Bird grabbed his trusty beating stick.
"You fail. You are nothing." Watanabe said standing near Louie, I squeezed my eyes shut as I turned my head right when Watanabe's stick was about to hit Louie.
I could hear him being beaten loud and clear.
I opened my eyes as Louie groaned.
--
"You should've stayed down." I said quietly as Louie faced me on my bunk bed, I carefully wiped the blood from his head.
His eye was dark purple and his nose was finally less swollen.
"I've made it this far and refused to give up because all my life I had always finished the race." He spoke quietly with his eyes fixated on me.
"Maybe you've gotta lose the battle to win the war." I spoke, something I've heard many times.
I looked down to see Fitzgerald stand from his bunk before handing another soldier a slip of paper very secretively since guards kept a close eye on us, even in our barrack.

Fanfiction"You should see your face." Louis spoke and I covered my mouth, afraid I made a mess. "What's the matter with it?" I asked in a hushed tone. "It's lovely." He said and I lightly smiled as I looked at my hands. "Your parents did a good job of raising...
