Louie held my hands as I jumped off the door of the plane, since they didn't really have stairs.

I inhaled deeply as I stepped onto American soil.

Louie got on his knees, still holding one of my hands as he kissed the asphalt.

I chuckled as he stood up, our hands hanging loosely together.

"Louie!" I heard a familiar voice shout from the large crowd that had gathered around the plane to see us home.

Pete shouted for his brother again before his family emerged from the crowd.

Pete in his spiffy Marine's uniform and his sisters and mother dressed in their finest skirts, and his father with his hair slicked back.

Louie squeezed my hand before letting go as he and his brother hugged each other tightly.

I smiled with tears threatening to spill as I watched Louie hold his mother tightly as she sobbed.

I was suddenly engulfed in a large hug, my family not as graceful.

I laughed as my brothers hugged me, I gushed about how tall they were before my eyes landed on my baby sister, who wasn't a baby anymore.

I hugged her tightly, kissing her head.

My parents hugged me next, my dad who is a Sheriff and the second strongest man I know, bawled his eyes out as he hugged me tightly.

After we broke apart, my eyes landed on my older sister Harper, her husband followed her steps as she carried a small blonde baby in her arms.

She handed her daughter off to her husband before she jogged the last few yards, she fell into my arms, crying like never before.

I hugged her so tightly I was scared she'd break, but she didn't.

We broke apart, she put her hands on my face, wiping my tears away.

I haven't seen my beautiful family in over two years, my niece was well over a year old already.

"You look so beautiful. You look- you look so good." Harper said as she still held my face.

If I would've come home the day we were rescued she would've thought differently.

"Come here, you remember Danny, right?" She asked and I nodded.

"It's good to see you, Danny." I smiled at my brother-in-law.

"I'm glad you're safe, Deja." He smiled sweetly before my eyes focused on the small girl in his arms.

"And this is your niece, who's named after her war hero of an aunt.." Harper smiled as I reached my hands out to see if she'd let me hold her.

She looked up at me and slowly leaned over for me to pick her up.

"Hi, baby. Hi." I spoke in a soft voice as I held the baby girl I've been dying to meet.

"Deja?" I looked up at Harper who stood with her husbands arm around her shoulders, she lightly covered her mouth as she smiled.

"Deja Constance Johnson." Harper smiled.

I smiled as a tear ran down my cheek.

"She's beautiful." I spoke softly as I looked at the small girl.

I wiped my under my eyes before I looked over at Louie, he talked to his family with a large smile, he looked over at me, a different kind of smile covering his face.

I looked away, afraid I'd go weak in the knees if I stared too long.

I handed Baby D back to her father as my little brothers held my bags for me.

"So what are you hungry for? Burgers? Maybe a milkshake?" My momma asked sweetly.

I hummed, unsure at first.

"French fries sound like heaven right now." I smiled and she chuckled with a nod.

"Excuse me, ma'am?" I looked over to face Louie, I smiled widely as I wrapped my arms around his neck tightly.

He laughed as he held my waist, I took him in before we broke apart.

"Louie, we're so glad you're okay." My mom gushed, hugging him tightly before my dad shook his hand.

Harper pulled me away for a second as my parents and Louie talked while the rest of my family talked amongst themselves.

"So, you and Louie?" She smirked as she winked.

I laughed, "Harper, darling. We have a lot to talk about." I smiled widely, because that's all I could say to tie her over.

We walked back to my family and Louie, and his family walked over too.

Without warning his mother hugged me tightly, I chuckled softly before hugging her back.

Pete and the girls hugged me too, we broke apart before Louie leaned over into my ear.

"Can I, uh, have my ring back?" He asked awkwardly and I chuckled before complying.

I slipped it off after a little bit of struggling.

"Sorry," I whispered as I handed it back to him.

He inhaled deeply as he held it in his hand, not even putting it on his finger.

He slowly got down on one knee, my eyes went wide as I realized what was happening.

He gently took my left hand in his, "My Sunshine, I've loved you for a long time. Even through the hardships you bring a smile to my face, and you never let me lose faith even when it seemed like there was no way out." He spoke what sounded like nervously.

"I've never been in love, but I reckon it feels like this-- my heart swells at the sight of you, and my heart breaks for you when you cry." He continued his speech as I sniffled.

"Deja Thoris Golde, will you marry me?" He asked with a smile playing on his lips as the whole crowd held their breath.

"Of course, I will, Louie." I spoke with a loving smile as the crowd erupted into cheering as he slipped the finger back into the place it's been for months.

He stood up and placed his hands on my waist, I wrapped my arms around his neck as he smiled.

Our lips came into contact, he dipped me down as I smiled into the extraordinary kiss.
