The three days before I started working as a nanny were completely mundane.
All I really did was worry about multiple things. Including, what I was going to eat for dinner each night since Annaleise had the night shift the rest of the week, getting angry at my pens and pencils, trying to blame them for my lack of stories and freak out about tossing a red bra into my white laundry load.
So my life wasn't entirely too stressful, but now all my clothing is a pale pink, so there's that.
Monday morning when I was getting ready to head to the tube for my first day, Annaleise was more in a tizzy than I was.
"Have you asked about her allergy list?" Annaleise asked me as she spread some jam on her toast. I shook my head since my mouth was full with an apple.
"Well make sure you do that. All you need this week is an ER visit." Anna said putting some frizz control in her hair, right over the kitchen counter.
"Oi! I don't want to be eating your hair in my food, Ann." I said as she tried to tame her curls.
"I don't want your feet on my kitchen table either," She said, gesturing to my laid back stance, my sock clad feet (today they were just a pink color, no theme), "So we're both unhappy." She said, giving up and tying her hair back into a large ponytail.
"What time is your train?" She shouts a bit as she leaves the room. I huff and follow her, knowing she was heading towards my closet. Monday mornings Annaleise had off, so she did our grocery shopping. She believed her clothes were not up the 'comfy status' that mine were. I figured that's why she was going in there.
This was a bit of an insult to my fashion sense, but I didn't dwell on it. As expected she made the turn into my room, heading towards my closet.
"Train is in a half hour." I answered as I entered the room.
"Sit." She commanded, pointing me towards my bed as her head disappeared into my clothing.
"Pardon?" I asked, furrowing my brow.
"You look in a right state, Lane. I will not let you go to a first day of work in a cardigan and just wearing mascara. Let alone a job for Harry Styles." Annaleise retorted.
"You are so concerned with him." I said, shaking my head as she made more of a mess of my closet than it already was.
"Damn right I am. And let him know your best friend is single and not turned off by men with kids. You're wearing this." She said, wiggling her eyebrows a bit before tossing me a simple black sundress, "With these," She added, also sending a pair of matching black kitten heels my way. I had bought them for graduation and had planned on never wearing them again and I was sticking with that plan.
"I'll wear my sandals, I shouldn't be running after a three year old in heels." I gave her as an answer, hoping she took the bait. She blinked for a second, before rolling her eyes and digging back into my closet, this time appearing with my white roman sandals. I smiled in approvement and she shut the door.
She made her way over to my vanity as I pulled my tribal printed cardigan that was so un-work appropriate over my head.
"God honey, we need to go lingerie shopping." Anna said, poking her head up from where she was in my jewelry box. I glanced down at my simple nude bra.
"This is practical. And when was the last time either one of us had a man see our panties?" I countered, pulling the dress over my head, then sliding my pants off and adjusting the skirt.
"A while. But I come prepared."
"Believe me, I know it." I mumble. I had seen Annaleise in various black and red lacy numbers wandering around the house while changing. I had three bras in three colors that I just rotated. I had no need for cute undergarments.
