Hadrian's POV

The Underworld was the best place to release pent up anger as you could kill ghosts over and over again but they're already dead. My opponent was an ancient warrior from a period where whips were popular because the man seemed to have an endless supply.

"F*ck," I hissed as the rope sliced into my back where he hit me. I grabbed it and threw it away from him but he pulled another one from the sleeve of his armour.

"Fight me like a man!" he bellowed.

I rolled my eyes. This had been going on for almost 24 hours straight amd I didn't want to beat him as he was a worthy opponent. "What do you think I'm doing, old man."

"Old man?!" He roared.

He flicked his wrist and the whip came down with an incredible force, pushing me onto my knees. Charging, he pulled out a blade and aimed for my chest. People really enjoy stabbing me there. I stuck out my foot which caused him to stumble. In a second, I had him pressed against the ground with his knife at his neck.

"Tagged," I said, out of breath. I released him and helped him up.

"You did well, young one," he replied, bowing slightly.

I grinned at him. "Go to your wife, Jeremiah. She's in the West."

He disappeared gratefully. The Underworld had different regions and resembled the world of the living apart from the everlasting darkness and ghosts roaming around. Then there was the rivers that you definitely did not want to fall in and the door that led to Hell. And the... Yeah, it wasn't that similar to tell the truth.

I was in the palace in seconds. Alecto stood there, frowning. Her sisters flanked her and also gave me the same expression.

"It's not going to work, brother," they all said at the same time.

"How would you know?" I asked walking past them and into the next room that had a single throne in the giant space.

"You can't kill them for no reason," Alecto clarified.

I smirked. "But I can." I kneeled and pressed my hand to the ground. As I rose, hundreds of black candles emerged from the floor. They were around four feet high and all represented the lives of the Fae who were part of Mala on Earth. The little flames on top told me that they were alive unless someone blew them out.

"Hadrian, you cannot kill them all especially if they did nothing."

"Your lack of faith hurts me, Alecto. I'm removing some of them. The ones after Rhea."

She smiled sadly. "You may be surprised at what you'll find."

I narrowed my eyes at her. "What the f*ck is that supposed to mean?"

The three sisters faded into smoke, avoiding my question. It left me me with a feeling that something was going to p*ss me off. I reached for the nearest candle and concentrated on the life force that came with it. Amanda Furtlock. Mother of two and worked in a coffee shop. She was clean apart from her tie to Mala. No need to end her life.

The next one was Kane Parkin. I could feel the evil coming straight from the candle. I picked it up blew the light out. Less children would be kidnapped and raped from now on. I continued until ten more candles were blown out. One of the taller ones stood beside me and I had a sense of familiarity with it. I pressed my index finger and the name came straight to me.

Ryan.

I instantly moved away as if it had burned me. Ryan? I didn't need to find out his life story as I had mostly been part of it but nothing pointed to him being associated with Mala. I was surprised more than angry. And this could only mean one thing. I had questions that he'd better f*cking answer.

*****

I didn't wait for him to open the door and let myself in. I found Ryan laughing with Pia in the kitchen. With a great amount of speed, I had him pinned to the wall with my hand around his neck.

"What the hell?" Ryan choked out.

"Hadrian, what are you doing?!" Pia shouted.

Ignoring her, I stared at my oldest friend. "Are you part of Mala?" I asked with a controlled voice. He nodded slightly and I let go of him. I turned away from him, not wanting to look at his face.

"What the f*ck is going on?" Pia said, sensing the tension in the room.

"Ask him," I sneered. "He's the guy working with people who are threatening to kill your best friend."

"What?" She whispered.

I heard Ryan walk towards her but she moved away. "Pia, listen to me. It's not what it sounds like."

"Then, tell us! Because I was a few seconds away from snuffing out your life before I found out my so called friend was with the people making my life a f*cking misery. So explain, f*cking explain why your name is among Mala," I snapped at him.

He raised his wrist which had an M tattooed on it. "I'm Fae and you know there's two types. Seelie and Unseelie. As it turns out, I'm Unseelie and the letter M appears to distinguish me between the Seelie which have a B. The M stands for malevolent which is what people usually think we are but that's just a stereotype. Now, Mala is just a shorter version for the Unseelie which probably explains why I'm included."

"So who are these Fae following me around calling themselves Mala as if they're part of a f*cking gang?"

"I don't know who they are," he admitted. I gave him a suspicious look which he caught. "If you don't believe me, check my thoughts. I have nothing to hide."

I shook my head, confused. I knew about the Unseelie and Seelie Fae so I had specifically made sure to bring up the lives of the people who were part of 'Mala' the fake version of the mafia. So why was he included?

"Fine. I believe you but if you're lying-"

"I'll make sure you'll never see the light of day ever again," Pia finished off.

"I swear I have nothing to do with them," Ryan raised his palms in defence.

"I pray you don't."
