Chapter 5 - Beta Wolf

On Saturday,
Isaac, Jeremina, Chase and I sat in a restaurant, eating lunch. I chewed my burger listening to Jeremina as she talked about the differences between dresses and jeans.

"Hey, we should watch a movie tonight" suggested Chase, suddenly.

"Yeah, we should" Jeremina agreed and turned to Isaac, "write down the list of snacks we will need for the movie tonight"

"No" he answered, nonchalantly. Jeremina turned to me, "you know why Isaac is-" Isaac didn't let her finish, "Okay, okay.. I'll write it" he said and asked for a paper and a pen from the waiter and began writing the huge list needed for tonight.

I looked at the paper while he wrote and noticed that the handwriting was familiar. It was same as the ones in the letters, which made my eyes widen. He looked up at me waiting for what is to come, but instead of saying or doing anything. I looked away.

There were so many questions in my head, was that what Jeremina was going to say to me? Did she even know? Did Chase know? Was he the red eyed monster?

Although my protests, Jeremina sent Isaac and I together to the walmart, to buy the snacks.

While we were in the walmart, I caught Isaac looking at me. For a second, our eyes met then both of us quickly turned away. After we were done purchasing for the things and were about to leave, Isaac was about to say something when the fire alarm rang. Instead of leaving the walmart, he pulled me in and both of us sat between two isles, breathing heavily.

He knew this was not just a fire alarm, it was something else. He intertwined our fingers, I did too. We held our gazes before he left my hand and stood up. "Stay behind me" he instructed. I walked behind him when suddenly a huge beast with red eyes -the one I saw at the forest- came. He had sharp teeth and long pointed nails like of a beast.

"Isaac?" I said softly.

"Don't be afraid, just stay behind and do as I say" his words made me feel safe but at the same time I was afraid. How could he fight against such a beast?

I saw his nails grow larger, but not as large as the red eyed monsters. I looked at his face and saw that his eyes were glowing and his teeth were sharp but not as sharp as the red eyed monsters. He hid me behind an isle as he fought the monster. I didn't see much of it as I had shut my eyes close and burried my head into my legs that I had pulled towards my chest.

I opened my eyes as I heard Isaac grunt. I looked at him and saw that the monster had pushed him far away. His eyes were closed and it looked like he had fainted. The monster looked around and saw me. He started walking towards me, I quickly stood up and carried the bag with snacks. An idea popped into my mind, I remembered the bottle of sand like thing -which in Jereminas words were know as, 'wolfsbane'- she had given it to me.

I pulled it out of my pocket and opened the lid and stopped running, I turned around and looked at the monster, who was not far. As he made his way towards me. I threw the wolfsbane all over him. He grunted and made all kinds of irritating noises. I looked at it stumble and make its way to the storage room.

I ran towards Isaac and sat next to him, I shook him violently which made him open his eyes. He took a sharp intake of breath and looked at me.

"What are you?" I asked him.

He looked at me then looked down. He looked at me again and said,

"A beta wolf"
