After classes the next day, I went to the music practice room as usual dreading it. I didn’t know if I could look Tamara in the eye. And I was scared that Josh would say something to her and then Abi would get into trouble – probably expelled for some stupid reason that was a load of crap.
“Hi!” Abi rushed over to me and gave me a huge hug that almost made me fall. As I stumbled backwards, Tamara walked through the door.
“Don’t trip,” she said and a fake smile shone from her face as she pushed past Abi and I who were obstructing the doorway.
“Hey I have a song for you. Josh would be back-up vocals and sing one verse himself. Here’s the lyric and music sheets,” I said and handed out multiple sheets to each person except Tamara.
“What about me?” she said as she examined one of her nails looking bored.
“Sorry. When I wrote the song I wrote it for one person and a male back-up.”
“Well then let me lead the song!”
“No. Abi is singing it,”
“Well, I sound better than Abi and Josh and I have very good chemistry. It would be all round better,” she said as she moved closer to Josh.
Saying I was angry would be an understatement. My fists clenched and my teeth ground together. My knuckles were white as I was clenching my fists that tight.
Let us just say what happened next wasn’t pretty. I did try to control myself but come on. She was being horrible to Abi and flirting with my boyfriend at the same time. She was just standing there with her hand on her hip and a smirk on her face basically saying hey how about you come and punch me in the face?.
So I did.
I don’t know what came over me but I punched her in the face.
Fortunately, Josh held me back from damaging her face further – but I had done enough. There was blood flowing out of her nose, her eye looked like it was going to be a shiner and she had hatred in her eyes. Plus the blood had gone all over her Gucci bag that she had so kindly flaunted in my face and was clearly ruined.
“You’ve broke my nose!” she yelled, her hand covering her nose, but he blood was flooding through the gaps in her fingers.
I wish that I could say that she was being over-dramatic, but when I looked, her nose was swollen and looked bent.
I didn’t think that I was that strong – breaking some ones nose took some strength.
Tamara’s nose was broken. She had called her Dad and he took her to the hospital. Everyone seemed very worried though and I didn’t know why.
“Why are you guys so worried? She only broke her nose! I doubt that she would have me arrested. Calm down,” I said as I sat down on the piano stool.
“Do you know who Tamara’s Dad is?” Scott asked leaning forward as if in anticipation at the answer to his question.
“No,”
“Well, he is the head of the university. The last songwriter we had was called Keera had wrote a song but hadn’t got a part for Tamara so punched Keera and Keera pushed her off. Tamara broke her arm and got Keera expelled.”
Oh god.
“Why would he want to see me? Oh god I’m a goner!” I cried as Josh took me to the heads office.
“It’ll be fine,” he assured me half-heartedly.
I walked in and found a stern looking man sitting in a large leather chair behind a desk that was covered in books about history and mechanics.
“Hello Miss Pettiford. Please sit,” he gestured to a small brown stool that was in front of his desk.
“So, I have gathered that you and my daughter have had a bit of a tiff. Am I correct?” he asked while examining a pencil that looked so sharp it could kill somebody.
“Yes, but..”
“Ah! Well fighting on campus is an expellable offence…” he said as he stood up and flicked through a book about aeroplanes.
“Sir, are you expelling me?” I gulped.
“Yes. But I was shown something by Mr Turner. A video. I began with you singing some song then Tamara provoked you and you punched her.”
“Josh? Why was he recording the practice?” I asked mainly to myself forgetting that he was there.
“Aah. He said he was going to surprise you and send it to a music company. Silver Notes to be exact,” he said looking at me with kind eyes suddenly.
“Well. I happen to know one of the high-up workers there and well he showed his boss this video and well – you have been offered a job.”
“What? Really?” I gasped.
“Yes. But you are expelled.” He said serious once again.
“Thanks! Not for the expulsion obviously but for the job!” I bluffed as I walked out of his office with a gleaming smile across my face.
“JOSH!” I yelled and ran into him and such a speed, he toppled over.
“What?” he asked as he got up from the floor examining a small bruise on his forearm.
“I WAS EXPELLED!” I yelled excitedly.
“Why are you so happy?” He asked, looking at me as if I was mental.
“HE GOT ME A JOB AT SILVER NOTES! AAAAAAHHHH!” I screamed and began dancing on the spot.
“It was all you! I cannot believe you were going to try to get me a job!” I calmed down and thanked him.
“Well it was supposed to be a Christmas present if I had managed to get you an internship there but hey you have a job now and I need to think of a new Christmas present for you..” he scratched the back of his neck thoughtfully for a few seconds before returning from his trance.
“Want to go get something to eat? Celebrate?” I asked Josh and he nodded.
A few minutes later we pulled up outside of May’s Diner and ordered food.
“We are going to have to practice if we want to put on a good show on Saturday. Practicing and advertising. Those are our main goals,” Josh said as he took a sip from his Coke.
“Yeah. I could ask Erin to design posters and we still need to come up with a band name,” I reminded him.
“Yeah. Let’s do that now,”
After an hour of deliberation, we came up with a name and rang everyone up telling them the name and they all loved it.
The Fallen Angels were ready to put on a show.
