Break-Up Songs

Of course after Tamara said that I did not go in the diner, but drove back home so I could eat comfort food and watch sad films. I expected  that Tamara would make up some excuse to why I wasn’t join them – probably something ridiculous but I really couldn’t care.

I ran up the stairs to the apartment and was surprised to find it not locked. I threw my coat and bag into the hallway and walked into the kitchen. I grabbed some chocolate from the cupboard and walked into the living room. Just as I was about to turn on ‘Titanic’, I heard muffled crying sounds coming from Charlotte’s room. Curioustiy took over me and I decided to see if she was crying.

Usually, if Charlotte was upset the last thing that she would want is someone helping her – trust me, I know from experience not to do that.

“Charlotte, are you okay?” I asked her as I edged into her room.

She was lying in her bed with her face in her now sodden pillow, tears streaming out of her face.

“No,” she sobbed though ‘no’ sounded more like ‘nuurrghhh’.

“What’s wrong? What’s happened?” I asked as she sat up.

I noticed she was wearing a dress and her make-up had run down her face making her look like a vampire panda.

“I..I was on a d…date with E….E…Evan,” with the mention of his name she broke into a brand new bout of tears “Well…. We we’re g…going out and we….we were g…going out on a date an…and…and h…he w….was ch…ch…cheating on me!” At the end of what she said, Charlotte collapsed into my arms and began crying all over again.

After almost an hour of Charlotte crying, she composed herself and changed out of her wrinkled dress and into tracksuit bottoms.

“Right. So the record company want me to write my first single and we could do it now? Emotions are high for both of us after what you told me that bitch said,” Charlotte suggested.

I had told her about Tamara and when Abi phoned me, Charlotte picked up and said that I was visiting my parents for the weekend. That had covered me at least until Monday.

“Sure,” I said.

I don’t know why I agreed, as the next 3 hours consisted of me writing a song and Charlotte singing out of tune and off key. Yey. Eventually, I wrote a break-up Taylor Swift style song that could easi;y be heard on the radio. Just maybe with a lot of Auto-tune.

After writing the song, Charlotte and I sat on the sofa together gossiping about celebrities and then watched one of the most amazing pick-me-up films of all time – Pitch Perfect.

Pitch Perfect was Charlotte and I’s all time favourite film and we had watched it countless times. The only problem today was even though it was a comedy – it had romance in it. As soon as Beca saw the boy, Charlotte walked out.

“Charlotte? Why did you leave?” I stupidly said.

“It’s all of thay 'love' crap. No-one can ever love somebody who lives them back. It’s impossible. The world hates 'love' and wants everyone’s hearts to be ripped out or everyone to just put up with eachother. I will end up with some bloody alcoholic that sleeps with every other woman and have some kids purely because I need company and then my husband and I will argue 24/7 and the kids will be unhappy and he’ll go and die then I’ll go and die and the kids will go into care,” Then Charlotte walked into her room and began crying once more.

One thing about Charlotte is that she often thought of the worst situations when her’s looked dire.

Her life was going to be perfect. After she will have gotten over Evan, she will go on and have an amazing career in the music business probably blackmailing me so I would write songs for her, she will get married to a handsome business leader or singer or who is just rich. They will have a a showbiz wedding and have loads of perfect children.

Where as I was probably going to write songs for Charlotte for the rest of my life and work in some music shop on minimum wage, with no husband or boyfriend or kids just myself and my piano.

I didn’t understand how someone like Charlotte could even think her life was a bit bad. She had all of the opportunities I could only wish to have.

Deciding to go to sleep, exhausted off all of the drama. I checked my phone once and found 3 missed calls from Abi then a message saying –

Sorry for the calls. Have a good time at your parents! X.

Then I saw 10 missed calls from Josh and then a message saying –

I know that you aren’t at your parents. When you decide to stop ignoring me, call me please. I’ve got a feeling that it has something to do with xx.

I ignored it deciding to face my problems tomorrow.
