Chapter 40

North's POV

As Elsa and Merida were explaining what happened, Sandy had to interrupt them. From the looks of it, he looked awfully worried.

"What's he saying?" Eugene asked.

"Really?" Bunny asked, ignoring Eugene.

"No... You don't think that..." Tooth trailed away.

"Will someone please explain what he's saying?!" Kristoff asked.

"Sandy had a suspicion on Jack ever since he fainted. He once sensed darkness in Jack while trying to cure him. Sandy's worried that Pitch may have done something to Jack that caused the recent events. And now that Jack's just destroyed your ice flower, his new behaviour and all, Jack might not be in control of himself." I explained.

"Sandy believes that Pitch is after the key, he's trying to stop us from finding our way home. That's most likely why he destroyed your flower. Because even without one item, the key can't be formed." Tooth continued.

"Then where's Jack right now? We have to keep a close eye on him from now on." Anna looked around.

"Oh no... He could be looking for the other objects!" Olaf shrieked in horror. "Quick, we gotta find him before he destroys more stuff!"

Merida turned to Elsa. "Didn't Jack say we had to stop him? What if he meant himself? What if he's trapped in his own body?"

"That makes so much sense now... Are The Nightmares capable of doing such a thing?" Elsa asked.

"Who knows what upgrades they did to themselves ever since coming to this place." Rapunzel replied.

"We have to find Jack, now." I got up. "Search everywhere."

Hiccup's POV

So I just finished feeding Toothless when Jack appeared out of nowhere behind me. He seemed to be searching for something.

"Need a hand? What are you looking for?" I asked.

Again, Jack didn't say anything. I rolled my eyes.

"Jack, won't you say something?" I pleaded. It's just so weird to see Jack like that, he's never been like that before. Seriously, what is wrong with him?

I looked at Jack in astonishment when the left side of his blue hoodie began changing to black. I quickly stopped him and pointed to the black patch. "Jack, your... It's changing! Are you all right?"

Jack roughly pushed me away, again. That's when I saw his eyes. They were golden yellow in colour. Only this time, it seemed permanent. I rubbed my eyes to make sure. "Jack... What happened to you...?" I gulped, backing away from him.

Jack smirked, walking towards me. With each step, his silvery white hair slowly changed to black. Toothless fired at him but he deflected it, not with ice, but with black sand.

"Stay away from me Jack." I warned, slowly reaching to my dagger. "I don't wanna hurt you."

"Hiccup!" I turned around and saw the rest dashing towards us.

Suddenly, Jack grabbed me and wrapped his arm around my neck. I was choking, couldn't catch my breath and I dropped my dagger. The rest surrounded us.

"What's going on Jack?! Let me go!" I struggled to get his hand away from my neck.

"Release him Jack." North commanded.

Again, Toothless fired, at the both of us! Jack created a barrier of black sand surrounding us. I was completely blinded. When the barrier was brought down, I looked at the new Jack in horror.
