A single word

Sent my mind into a cloud

And my lips into a frown.

A word surrounded by disgust and hatred came out of that mouth.

"You know that's not how I meant it."

I've not once in my life used that word to insult someone.

"I'm sorry."

The two syllables shoot pain through my body and remind me of the past.

"Why are you angry?"

I can't simply forgive a word like that.

He didn't direct it at me,

And yet it harms me.

A history of pain and suffering cannot be simply stripped from those letters.
