They stood by a river.
Water flowing
Crashing
Smashing.
Each thought of jumping in,
Of letting the water take them to a faraway land,
Somewhere with no wars,
No death,
No student loans.
Some sort of haven from all the stresses of life.
But each knew
No matter how magical the river seemed,
There was only one way it could take them away from their anxieties.
But neither truly wanted it.
So they clasped hands,
And they walked away from the river.
Away from the waves,
And into a hurricane.
