Shay and Kyle both turned their gazes to the Pokéballs again. "You can pick first." said Kyle. Shay is super excited and he knows exactly which Pokémon he'll get!
Shay chose Charmander! He was so happy he got to pick first! "Who will be your starter Pokémon Kyle?" said the professor.
"I choose Squirtle." said Kyle. And with that, Shay was slightly less excited. Kyle will have the type advantage, but he won't let that discourage him!
"I think that both of your choices were good." said the professor. Shay and Kyle were off, heading towards the door.
"Wait! I forgot something!" The two kids turned back to see what the professor had to say. He handed each of them a red, rectangular, and relatively thin object.
"This is a Pokédex. It is a device used to scan Pokémon to learn more about them. It is also your Trainer ID." said the professor.
"I also have 20 Pokéballs. 10 for each of you, just to get you started." He handed the 10 Pokéballs to both trainers.
"Thanks!" said Shay. "Yeah, thanks!" said Kyle.
Just as they were about to leave, Kyle had an idea! "Hey Shay, why don't we have our first battle?"
Shay thought it was a brilliant idea, so he agreed! "Go, Squirtle!" said Kyle.
"Squirtle!" said the Tiny Turle Pokémon. "Charmander, I choose you!" "Char!" said the Lizard Pokémon. And after that, the battle was off!
