I sat up on the hospital bed, craning my neck up when the door had opened again. A little part of me hoped it was that guy again, but it disappeared as fast as it came.I frowned. Who was that guy? Why did he look so familiar? I shook my head and smiled at the idiot doctor as he sat on the chair in front of me.
"Ms Johnson." His tone was soft and empathetic, immediately causing me to grow wary.
"What's wrong?" I asked, nervously gulping.
He stared at me a moment before sighing. "Ms Johnson, you have something called selective amnesia. It is a type of amnesia that makes you forget someone or something special or plays an important role in your life."
I stared at him a moment. "Who or what is this special someone or something?" I asked, feeling curious myself. I know there's something peculiar going on. I knew I was forgetting something, but what was it?
"Ms Johnson. I would love to tell you but I can't. You need to figure that out for yourself." I swallowed, slowly nodding my head.
Just then the doors burst open and Zach sprinted towards me. He grabbed me and pulled me in for a bone crushing hug.
"Oh fuck! I came as soon as they called. Shit! You're awake!" He let out a string of curse words, causing me to chuckle before hugging him back.
"Hey Zach." I spoke softly, staring into his eyes which were filled with unshed tears. The doors opened again and to my surprise- my mother, father and Nick burst through.
My mother was the first to hug me. "Oh, my beautiful daughter." She kissed my forehead. My father was the next to hug, followed by Nick.
"The family of Ms Johnson, can you please step outside for a moment, for some confidential information?" The doctor asked. I furrowed my brows in bewilderment. What's so confidential that couldn't be said in front of me?
Everyone slowly exited the room and I was once again left curious. Can't somebody just explain this bullshit to me without beating around the fucking bush?!
Lauren's POV
"The family of Ms Johnson, can you please step outside for a moment, for some confidential information?" The doctor asked. I glanced away from my beautiful daughter before throwing a bewildered frown at Richard. He shot me the same expression and we all slowly exited the room together.
The doctor closed the door behind us and sighed, shooting us all encouraging smiles.
"As I've explained to Ms Johnson earlier. She has something called selective amnesia, meaning she would not be able to recollect someone or something deeply special to her. I'm sure you are all aware of Mr. Ryder-"
Zachery cut him off. "Wait. Hang on a second. You're telling me, my sister that has been in a coma for seven months has some bullshit called selective amnesia?" He asked slowly, as if he wasn't comprehending the situation into his head.
I placed a comforting hand on my sons back before turning back to the doctor.
"Please, carry on." I urged, trying to keep my voice stable but failed as it wavered. Richard wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me to his chest, instantly sending a surge of warmth to erupt inside of me.
I took a deep breath and blinked away the tears that were threatening to spill. I just got to know my daughter and honestly, I thought I was going to loose her.
