Lumos Maxima ➣ Newt Scamander {1}

CHAPTER TEN

Ella woke the next morning feeling like the world couldn't have been any better. Her gray eyes were filled with delight and excitement. Blinking her eyes, she adjusted to the early morning light that traveled through the window of Tina and Queenie's apartment. Groaning, Ella stretched but recoiled as some of her still healing wounds were stretched. She peeled the comforter off of her legs and shivered as a cold breeze wafted through the room. Getting up Ella quickly went to the window and shut it. Looking in around she found a note hanging on the wooden closet.

'you may wear anything that's in here' - Tina

Ella smiled and opened the closet. She pulled out a white long sleeve blouse and a pair of black pants that surprisingly for her quite well. She brushed her hair and kept it down this time. She used what little makeup Tina had to cover up some of the scars.

Once she seemed herself as ready she opened the door to the room and walked out. She looked around and spotted Newt first. Before she could take another step forward she was as tackled with a hug. Ella's eyes went wide as she stumbled back in surprise.

Tina had wrapped her in a bone-crushing hug. Ella raised her eyebrows at newt who had looked up when she walked in. He just smiled and shook his head. Tina pulled back from the hug and held Ella at arm's length.

"Oh, my Merlin Ella you gave us such a scare!" She exclaimed. Ella gave her a small smile.

"Sorry, Tina I didn't mean to." Ella apologized. Tina gave her a scolding look.

"Never do it again."

"I promise I won't."

Tina seemed satisfied with the answer and walked towards Queenie who was using her wand to cook scrambled eggs. Ella sat on the couch next to Newt. He looked over at her.

"How are you feeling?" He asked quietly. Ella shrugged.

"Better I guess. Still sore but it's bearable."

"The obscurus really drained your energy," Newt told her with a concerned expression.

"I know, but I'm alright now." She reassured him. There was a pause.

"I'm leaving today," Newt said solemnly. Ella frowned.

"What? Why?"

"I have other places to see, creatures to help."

Ella pursed her lips. Just then Queenie set the food down on the table.

"Breakfast is ready." She said with a smile. Ella smiled back and stood up and went to sit at the table. Once everyone sat down and started eating Ella spoke up realizing someone was missing.

"Where's Jacob?"

Queenie's expression turned to one of sadness.

"He was obliviated," Tina said breaking the news.

"Oh.," Ella said sadly. Jacob didn't deserve it. She frowned and picked at her food.

"He got his bakery, you know," Queenie said. Ella smiled a little.

"I bet you've already been there," Ella said with a smirk. Queenie blushed.

"She went to the opening." Tina elaborated. Ella chuckled lightly. Ella glanced at Newt to see he hadn't touched his food.

"Are you okay Newt?" Ella asked it was her turn to be concerned. He looked up with a small smile on his lips.

"Sorry, I'm just thinking." He said softly. Ella nodded. She had had those times before.

"How much time do we have before Newt has to go?" Ella asked.

"Two hours," Tina said picking up a forkful of eggs. That wasn't enough time. Ella pursed her lips.

The two hours they had with Newt passed by too quickly for Ella's liking. They had walked around Central Park and Newt told them about the many creatures he hoped to see. They also stopped to see the President and Tina job her job as an Auror back with a few well-chosen words. Ella stayed silent the whole time.

As they walked up to the harbor where the boat that was going to take Newt home. Ella stayed in the back as Queenie and Tina followed Newt. They stopped a little ways away from the boat to say their goodbyes. Ella stood a little way back as they talk. She could barely hear what they said. Tina hugged Newt and he hugged her back. Queenie walked up and said goodbye.

They shook hands and it was Ella's turn to say goodbye. She walked forwards and flung her arms around his neck engulfing him in a hug. He took a step back to balance himself. Setting down his case he wrapped his arms around her.

"Don't leave me," Ella whispered.

"This isn't goodbye, it's I'll see you later," Newt said softly.

"Are you sure?" She asked. Newt nodded. She pulled back reluctantly.

"I'll see you again," Newt reassured the girl.

"Goodbye Newt." She said quietly. Newt turned on his heel and began to walk into the plank to the ship. But Ella forgot to do something.

"Newt wait!" She yelled. He stopped and turned. Ella ran up the ramp and stopped in front of him. She leaned forward gently pressed her lips against his. Newt froze for a second before closing his eyes and kissing her back softly. He wrapped a hand around her waist. After a second Ella pulled back.

"I'll see you soon." She said not knowing that they wouldn't meet for a long time.
