Innocent Death.

Chapter 3:HeartBeats

The night started to cast over the sky. Only tiny beams of light were still surviving, as the group kept walking.

"We need to find a safe location," Alec spoke up."We can't walk forever.".

"No shit.", Sierra replied to Alec,her eyes narrowed,annoyed at his idiotic question.

Alec smiled,rolling his eyes. Zoe stopped, a delayed reaction causing the group to stop as well. Zoe looked to her side. She began to then walk into the dark hallway shaped area. The group stared from a distance. A soft groan came out from the alley. Zoe ran out,gasping for air as Max catches her and shakes her by her shoulders until she calms down.A zombie limps out of the dark alley, following Zoe as Sierra quickly shoots the creature in the forehead with her arrow. The zombie falls to the ground.

"I'm guessing it's not safe there.", Max looked to Zoe,cleverly smiling. Zoe narrowed her eyes and glared at him, annoyed as she pushed him off of her and walked on.

Sierra found an abandoned liquor store.Alec followed Sierra,but soon went ahead of her into the store. The group waited for a second. Alec came out, a big smile on his face.

"Safe location: check.", he said,trying to be humorous. The group smiled,walking into the liquor store. Sierra looked at the doors.

"We need a barrier," she said,"just in case zombies try to open it, it'll be locked and we will wake up and be prepared."

Zoe and Alec nodded, Abbey helping Sierra push a shelf over as Zoe and Alec moved another shelf to go on top of the first. Abbey found some wallet chains,tieing them together to form a big chain. She handed one end to Max, as Max went to one end of the shelves and Abbey went to the other. Abbey hooked the chain to the bar of the door and Max did the same to the other side. The group backed up, scanning their barricade.

"Good enough," Abbey said.

"Good enough won't help us survive," Zoe interrupted,"but if the zombies break through, I guess we'll hear them."

Abbey's eyes widened,shocked at the fact. She shook her head,ignoring her thoughts.

Alec went to the back of the store, and pulled out 3 bottles of whiskey. He let out a big smile, walking back to the group and holding up the bottles.

"Let us drink!",Alec said, handing a bottle to Sierra, one to Max,and one to Abbey. He then went bag to get 2 more bottles. He tossed one to Zoe, then took a swig of his own.

The group sat in a circle, in the front of the store. They drank their bottles of whiskey and talked.

"We will even survive?" Abbey said,swallowing a swig of the drink.

"Time...will tell." Alec replied,getting drunk as he almost finishes his bottle.

"Looks like somebody's tipsy." Zoe said cleverly,the group chuckling at her comment,even Alec.

Abbeys eyes widened. She set her half emptied bottle of whiskey down.

"Oh no!", she said,"We aren't supposed to drink this! We're not old enough!"

Max looked to her. "Do you see anything else to drink in here?" he said.

Zoe set her bottle down,the bottle not even half empty. She stood up,and walked around the store. She found a freezer in the back.She opened it,finding a huge cooler filled with water bottles. Taking the cooler by the handle,she pulls it out and brings it to the group.

"Water,anyone?" She said,setting the cooler to the center of the circle the group had made. Everyone stood up,and was able to grab 3 bottles each. Zoe stuffed 2 of hers in her bag, opening the third one and gulping it down. Abbey guzzled her first bottle, trying to drown and wash out the whiskey toxin.She set the other 2 in her bag as well.

Most of the group fell asleep. Alec and Max were awake. Alec stared at Sierra,watching her silent slumber. Alec was exhausted,but had trouble falling asleep.Max kept him up,speaking to him.

"Alec...don't you realize we're battling death? The dead?" Max said,trying to check if Alec was still drunk or not.

Alec replied to him,his words stuttering,"I...I do know..but we can't...we can't just end it when...when we want to.But damn, isn't Sierra...isn't she hot..."

Max stared at Alec,creeped out and slightly frightened.He shook his head, and slumped to the floor.He closed his eyes,leaving Alec stuttering, mumbling, and talking to himself.
