It had been another long day for you. Always tired from the night before, tired from getting up early, tired from the long hours at work, tired from the cries in the middle of the night.
But it was all worth it, for her. Your daughter was the light of your life, your love. Even though it was hard to be a working mother, hard to lose all of your sleep, it was little compared to the love you had for your daughter.
She was only a few months old now, but you knew she would grow up to be just like her father. Her little angelic face already looked so much like him.
As you sat down by the window, watching the sunset, you rocked your daughter to sleep. But this time, she was having a hard time dozing off. She started to squirm in your arms, a little pout on her face. Then she let out a small cry, her little eyes looking up at you.
As your tired eyes looked down at her, you gave her a soft smile. Getting up, you held her to your chest while walking over to the little music box in the corner of the room by the crib.
Opening the small box, the light sound of the song started to play. The little cries from your daughter started to die down as she looked down at the box, fixated on the twirling butterfly in the middle.
While she watched the butterfly, you lightly rubbed her back, swaying back and forth. Once the little sniffles from your daughter were gone, you softly put her down in her crib, looking down at your beautiful baby girl.
She smiled a little toothless smile, kicking her legs a little as she looked up at your smiling face. You looked back at the music box for a moment, listening to the song. Then you turned back, rubbing your baby's cheek.
"I wish you could meet the person who helped make this song..." You whispered, the soft music filling your heart with many emotions. "He was a great man. I'm sure he would have liked to meet you too..." You trailed off, feeling a few tears in your eyes as you looked down at your daughter.
She had a light grip on your finger as she finally dozed off, the lullaby calming her. Then you got up and turned the light off, lightly letting go of her small hand and quietly leaving the room as the little music box slowly faded.
The song started to slow as you closed the door, sliding down the wall outside her room.
And once the lullaby ended, your tears began.
