My eyes fluttered open and the sun was shining through the window. I rolled over and gagged.

I jumped out of bed and puked in the bathtub because I couldn't make it to the toilet.

I groaned and put my head on the side of the bathtub. I blindly reached up and turned the cold water on to flush away the sick.

I stood up and leaned over the sink. I brushed my teeth three times and used mouthwash once before going into my closet and putting on a pair of shorts and a tank top.

I opened the door and the smell of food was in the house. I gagged and slammed the door shut.

I bent over and tried not to puke again.

Someone walked up the stairs and knocked on the door. "Alex? Are you awake?" it was Tammy.

"Yeah." I opened the door again and pulled her inside before I could smell food.

"Well, I brought Chinese food, are you okay?"

I shook my head. "Something's wrong, I think I need to see a doctor." I sat in the computer chair and put my head in my hands.

"I'll call your mom." she started out the door.

"No!"

She stopped and stared at me.

"She can't know about any of this, it's my dad."

She nodded. "Well, I'll call and make you an appointment."

"For today, please."

She nodded and pulled out her cell phone.

I barely listened as she talked. I rubbed my face and tried not to cry.

I don't know what's wrong with me.

Tammy touched my shoulder. "You're in luck, they had an opening. We have to go if you want to make the appointment."

I nodded and grabbed my wallet.

I held my breath as I walked through the house and out to her car. The ride was quiet and long.

When we got to the doctor's office we sat in the waiting room with a bunch of old people.

A few snubbed me but the lady I was sitting next to me patted my hand.

"Ignore them." she smiled.

I nodded. "It's easier said than done."

She nodded and turned in her seat to get a better look at me. "Can I see your hand?"

I don't know why I put my hand in hers but I did.

She held on to my hand and closed her eyes. There was something about her, she looked like a normal elderly woman but something was different.

When she opened her eyes she smiled.

"It's a girl."

I looked at her confused. "What?"

"You'll see." she looked at the door and the nurse opened it and called my name.

I stood up and went through the door. What in the world was she talking about?

The nurse put me in a room. "So Alex, what seems to be the problem?"

"I have been sleeping a lot lately and every time I wake up I throw up. I took a pregnancy test but it was negative."

She nodded. "Well, I'll get the doctor. He'll be just a few minutes."

I nodded and she left. I picked up and random magazine and flipped though it.

A few moments later the doctor came in and smiled at me.

"Good afternoon." he sat in the chair. He glanced at the chart and turned the page. "So it says here you have been sick and sleeping abnormally. Do you think you could be pregnant?"

"I don't think so, I mean, I took a home test but it was negative." I stared at the floor.

"Sometimes, they will give you a false negative." he said and tapped the cot thing.(what ever the hell it's called.) "Hop up."

I sat on the thing and he stood up.

"When was your last menstrual cycle?" he asked.

I mentally slapped myself. "About 5 weeks ago." I said quietly. "I feel so stupid, I hadn't been paying attention."

He smiled. "It's not a problem. Lift your shirt just a tad."

I did and he put his stethoscope on. He pressed it around my stomach and was quiet. He nodded to himself and took his stethoscope off and put it around his neck. "Well, Alex you are pregnant."

My stomach dropped. "What?"

"You are pregnant." he repeated.

I sat up and took a deep breath. "Are you sure?"

He nodded. "I heard the heartbeat for myself."

"Can you really do that? I though you had to be a few months along to do that?" I put an arm around my stomach.

"Nope, the heart starts beating 22 days after conception and you are just a few days over that apparently."

I nodded and jumped off the cot thing. "Thanks."

He smiled. "That's what I'm here for."
