"So how was your day Hanako?" Mum asked as I entered our open plan dining room and living room. I shrugged my shoulders at her before I took off my hoodie and put it on on of the living room chairs. I then walked over next to her. She was pouring some thick curry next to some rice on plates.
"That's good," Her face held a small smile as she spoke before nodding towards the table. "Hanako, be a dear and take those plates and put them on the table." I nodded before picking up three plates and placing them on their selective places. Mum then came in with two more plates and did the same.
She then went out into the hallway and proceeded to call out my Father's and brother's names. After she called them down she took a seat at the table. She pointed at the empty chair next to me.
"Take a seat dear." I sat down promptly and then waited along with Mum for everyone to arrive.
A couple of minutes later my Father and two brothers entered the room and sat down at the table. Mum and I on one side, Hiro and Ryo on the other and Father at the top.
The five of us clapped or hands simultaneously and thanked for the meal before we started eating.
Hmm. I took a bite out of my curry and rice. Delicious.
"So," I looked at my Father with curious eyes. "How was as your day Hanako?" I felt like I almost choked on my food. What? He never asks how I am, he always leaves me to my own devices. I swallowed what was in my mouth before I looking up at him.
"I just met up with some people, not much to be honest." His eyes narrowed curiously at my response. Oh crap, something's wrong with him. I know that look.
"Oh really, your Mother told me that you were out somewhere. It must have been something important to get you out the house. So Hanako, what was it that you did with your friends?" I scowled at him. Next time I go out I'm going to sneak out. I ain't telling Mum anything again if she's just going to tell him.
"Like I said, not much." My voice was cold as I spoke to him, a look of boredom resting on my face. Tch, nosy bastard, leave me alone.
"Not much meaning?" I sharply exhaled out of agitation. For fuck sake.
"Skating." My voice was curt as I spoke. I picked up more rice and curry on my chopsticks before putting it in my mouth. Can they not just leave me alone. I don't feel like talking to them tonight. I looked up to see the both of my brother's staring at me with wide eyes.
"Skating? Hana, you're ice skating?" I watched the pools of curiousity and shock swirl around in their identical jade green eyes. I rolled my eyes at the look on their faces.
"Yeah and what of it?" My sharp voice made them gulp down their food in their mouths and make them stare down at the plate in front of them. They looked as though they had something to say to me.
"Nothing we just-"
"Thought you didn't like ice skating." Ryo finished off his brothers sentence. I stayed silent for a couple of moments, taking in what they had said before speaking up.
"Who said I like it?" Their gaze once again rested on me as they watched me speak. "They persuaded me to join them; its not as though I actually wanted to go and do it with them for fun. Plus, the one of them looked really upset when I declined so I just did it on a whim." This in turn, caused them to go silent. Hiro opened his mouth to speak but Ryo beat him to it.
"To be honest with you Hana, I never expected you to be so easily persuaded by people considering how strong-minded you are with things. Especially with people you just met. If you've just met them why would you do it just because one of them felt bad, that isn't like you at all." His jade green eyes burned into mine. He's right, I was acting soft. Tch. But, who's to say we haven't met before...
"I just thought it was worth a shot okay besides I don't plan on doing it again so stop making such a big deal out of things." I clicked my tongue and put my chopsticks on my plate. I'll eat after they get rid of this silly conversation.
"Actually it is Hanako." I looked over at my Father who had spoke in his low voice. "You are not to be fooling around doing ice skating. It's not even a proper sport. To be honest I think ice skating is a stupid thing to do. It can turn dangerous in one wrong move. And another thing, I do not want you fooling around with people you just met.-"
"Silly sport? To be honest I don't care whether or not it's a silly sport it's not like I am doing it properly now am I? And as for fooling around what the hell is that supposed to mean? What do you think I'm doing? Let me guess, it's gotta be something sexual. Who do you think I am, a regular on the corner?" My eyes cut through his. Emerald green through dark brown.
"Do not take that tone of voice with me Hanako. Need I remind you that I am your Father as well as a highly respected man. Your fooling around will leave a mark on my reputation if you continue to do this. I do not want my only daughter to be fooling around with young men while frolicking around on ice. You will never step another foot again on ice, am I clear?" I felt myself give a quick shake in fury.
"What?" My voice was as sharp as knives and these knives seemed to cut into him. His face however remained emotionless.
"I said, you are not to do ice skating again, do I make myself clear?"
"What? No."
"Hanako! Do not take that tone with me, you will do as I say."
"Oh really? And why's that?"
"Because I am your father!"
"Oh really? I'll believe it when I see it." I stood up abruptly and slammed my hands down on the table and faced the man sat at the end of the table. "You can tell me not to go ice skating but just because you say something doesn't mean I'm going to do it. Sure I probably won't go back and do it again but at the end off the day it is my choice whether or not I do, not yours. You cannot stop me from doing what I want. I hope you learn to understand that." My voice was laced with venom. I straightened up and removed my hands from the table but I still continued to stare down at my Father.
"You will do as I say." His low voice commanded me. I walked away from the table, phone in my head and made my way over to the door. I slid it open.
"Hanako please." My Mum's voice pleaded me and I stood in the door way, my back facing all of them. Then slowly, I lifted my head and looked right at my family which was still sat around the table. I singled out one person and told them three words.
"I'm twenty- two years old, I'm pretty sure I can do what I want with my life. So, in any case;" I looked directly into my Father's eyes.
"Go to hell." And with that I made my way to my room.
When I got there I opened the door before stepping in and closing it behind me. Then, I slid down the door and placed my head on my knees and allowed the thoughts in my mind to circle in my head.
