I had walked down the halls of Greenwhich High as a stranger for the past two weeks, yet I still hadn't even made a single friend. It was kind of sad if you thought about it. I mean, you would have thought that a new girl from a different state would be like a scientific discovery for these kids here in Roseville, but obviously kids here were a lot different than back home in Chainwood. It wasn't until I had entered the cafeteria two weeks after I had arrived in the town that I realized just how different these people were.

“What that heck?!” I declared to myself as I noticed a red-headed girl and black-headed girl showing off what appeared to be skeleton hands. It wasn't until I looked down at the girls' hands that I realized that they were showing off their own.

“Oh, my gosh!” I stated as I started to gag. How could that have been even humanly possible?

“People here are sure diff-” I bumped into a prissy-looking girl with blonde hair when I wasn't watching where I was going.

“Hey, watch where you're going, you stupid bitch!” The girl declared and I started to back up when she started to move toward me.

“I-I-I'm sorry. . .” I stuttered and then without realizing it I started to fall. I tried to catch my balance, but that only made it worst because my milk carton fell off of my tray, flew through the air, and landed upside down on a handsome guy's lap. As he started to stand up, I immediately jumped to my feet and started dabbing my napkins down on the spot where the milk landed. Much to my dismay, my napkins started to rip in half leaving white streaks on his white jeans.

“Oh, um. . . This is not good. . .” The guy stated. As he bent down to help clean up the mess, I felt the strangest, but most wonderful sensation, go through me as our hands touched.

“I am so sorry. . . I didn't mean to. . . I am just so sorry. . .” I trailed off.

“No, no. It was my fault. I shouldn't have put my backpack out in the aisle.” He said and I couldn't help but, stare into his hazel eyes. I know it sounds bizarre, but I felt like I could almost see into his soul.

“No, it was my fault. I am the one who spilled the milk all over you.” I objected, standing and picking up the remaining stuff that had fallen from my tray.

“True, but I was the one who left my backpack out in the aisle.” He remarked, standing up as well.

“Oh. Well, I should have paid more attention to where I was walking.”

“Well, alright. . .” He said. “Wait a minute. Aren't you the new girl from Chainwood?”

Oh, no! Here I thought I had met someone who was actually going to be nice to me.

“Er-Um. . . Yeah, that's me.” I replied, frowning slightly.

“My name is Jonah Conner. If you need any help finding anything here, just come find me and I'll try to help you out.”

“Oh, thank you, but you don't have to do that.”

“But, I insist. . . Um, what was your name again?”

“Oh. Er-Um. . . My name is Valerie Turpin.” I responded, smiling happily.

“What the hell, Jonah? Why are you talking to that rift-raft slut? You don't even know where she came from.” The girl I had bumped into declared as she grabbed Jonah by the arm and started to pull him away.

“Francheska, let go of me! I can talk to whoever I want to.” He protested, trying to get free of the blonde's grip.

“Hmm. . . I wonder what your parents would say about this, Jonah. . .” She said, letting go of him and smirking mischievously.

“Okay, okay. I see your point. Well, it was nice meeting you, Valerie. Um. . . I suppose I'll see you around school?”

“Er-Um. . . Sure.” I stated as Jonah and Francheska left the cafeteria, leaving me standing alone and looking like a lost little girl.

“Well, that was an interesting way to make a first impression.” I muttered to myself as I took my tray back up to the lunch line and then I walked out of the cafeteria, not at all hungry anymore.
