"Look at the smart board to find your partners to work within this project. If you don't like your partner, talk to me after class." Ms. Ruiz announces before returning to her desk and working on coursework.
A flood of students rushes to the front of the room to see who they are paired with on the huge second marking period science project. This includes Levi, who runs back to tell me that we are partners.
The bell rings and we make plans to meet up at his house to do the project. Mostly because his parents will be home, which means his father, who apparently wants to meet me.
I guess I feel flattered if it wasn't the fact that his father is a psychologist/therapist and I have apathy according to Levi.
Besides that, I don't mind because lately, I have been enjoying Levi's company.
We are in the warm month of November (because we live in Florida). Most of the time I would hang out with Levi. Since I have been such a close friend of Levi, the school has turned on their opinion about me. I could be one of the most popular people in school, just because of my relations with the most popular boy, not that I care, though.
People believe we can win the best couple and become prom queen and king according to most.
I talked to my godmother about my supposed apathy. She was a little worried about it and skeptical considering a doctor did not diagnose it. I just told her it wasn't a big deal and friends are helping me. She believed it.
Most importantly in the short amount of time I have been with Levi, he helped me find myself and understand my enthusiasm for life a little more. I have never thought I would like marine biology so much if it wasn't for that one time, Levi invited me with his friends to the beach. Despite the bitter DeDe (who I found out her actual name is Delilah), I had so much fun with the others and exploring the tide pools.
By each day, Levi is becoming a more and more important person to me. I wonder what the future has in store for us.
😱😡😤
"It was so nice to meet you, Mackenzie. I hope we can talk again sometime. I am sure my son will take good care of you." Dr. Young smiles and shakes my hand. I can tell where Levi gets his famous smile from.
Dr. Young looks like an older Levi with gray hairs mixed with his brunette hair and the very light green eyes. He is a kind wise man who is very knowledgeable in his field. I hold people like that on a high pedestal. Apparently, he is a well-known psychologist and therapist.
"It was very nice to meet you too Dr. Young. Have a nice day." I reply back.
"You too. Study hard."
I return back to Levi's room, where I see him in his laptop researching about our project on abiogenesis.
Levi tears from the laptop screen and looks at me, "Hey....you are back. I can't figure out the glitter thing you wanted me to do. I didn't bother. I heard glitter was the herpes of crafting."
"Ok. I will just do it." I say before kneeling on the ground and outlining the border of the poster with green glitter.
A small knock came from Levi's door. Levi walks over and opens the door to a girl with breaded dirty blonde hair and the same green eyes that the Young family seem to hold. The girl looks like she can be Levi's sister as she looks like Dr. Young.
"Maggie. What do you want?" He says, annoyed.
"Brodie told me that a girl was here. I want to meet her." She says and attempts to push Levi out of the way, which she fails to do.
