We arrive at the prom venue right on time. As we got out of the car, we get bombarded by the flash of cameras and an announcer's voice.
"It looks like we have Amaya Navarro and Mackenzie Adams coming into the scene. They look beautiful in their dresses! Better get your masks on girls! This is a masquerade party after all." The announcer says enthusiastically. I overhear that his name is Stephan Jenkins. He is the president of the newspaper club and behind the school's events, activities, and gossip. I guess they asked him to be the master of ceremonies today.
"Ok Mackenzie, put on your mask. We are heading inside." Amaya instructs as she puts her mask on. I do the same and we head inside.
Our masks match our dresses. Amaya has a silver one to match with her black and silver dress while I have a gold one to match my gold and pink dress.
Once we got inside, we were amazed at the prom committee's work. The colors went nicely for the masquerade theme: red, black, gold, and silver. There are many people already either dancing or at the tables socializing. We stood on a balcony that looks over the whole party. It has two grand staircases on each side leading to the party below.
"Wow." Amaya and I say in unison. We turn to each other and giggle.
Someone taps Amaya's shoulder and she turns around to look at a masked guy. His mask looks like it was taken from the phantom of the opera. Not to mention he looks really sharp in his black suit and silver tie.
"Hello, ladies." He says, taking Amaya's hand and kisses it.
"Julian?" Amaya asks in shock.
"Isn't it oblivious? I pulled some strings and was able to come here." He says, pulling Amaya into a hug.
"OMG!!! This is amazing!" Amaya jumps. They pull away from their hug.
Julian checks her out, then he goes to me and gives me a hug," You guys look stunning. I don't compare at all."
"Oh, Julian. You look quite handsome. Stop putting yourself down." Amaya giggles and lightly hits his arm.
We were there for a bit, Julian explains how he was able to leave early to get to prom on time. I found it sweet that he thought of Amaya when trying to get to prom.
"It looks like the school's star, Levi Young and his right-hand girl, Delilah Garrison has arrived at prom," Stephan announces.
I quickly glance down the long hallway and I see Levi and Delilah enter through the doors. They looked amazing together. Delilah has on a red fitting dress with sparkle all over it. Her blonde hair in a tight pony tail and her mask was solid red and gold.
As for Levi, when he walks in, my heart goes a million times a second. His black tuxedo with a red tie, his hair slicked back, the gold mask he wore, and his shining posture. Oh my goodness, he is stunning. I am not ready to face him, not now.
"Amaya! Julian!" I yell. They stop their conversation to look at me with a surprised look on their faces.
"What is wrong, Mackenzie?" Amaya asks.
I grab Amaya shoulders," Please cover for me."
"What are you talking about?" Julian asks.
I glance down the hall and see Delilah and Levi getting closer to us. Why did we, so happen to be standing right in front of the entrance?!
I look back to Julian and Amaya in a panic," Tell Levi I am not here. I never came with you and you never saw me. Completely unknown."
"Why? I thought you...." Amaya stops in mid-sentence. I assume she understands what I want based on my facial expression.
