"Ok, Mackenzie. I am done," Amaya backs away from me and smiles," This is my greatest work yet!"

I swivel around in my chair and check out my face in the mirror. I was in awe. It was like I am looking at another me. Another hotter, better-looking version of myself. My makeup is flawless; dramatic on the eyes and lips. It was like I was glowing but, Amaya tells me I do that on my own (so did Levi). My hair in a half up - half down style with curls and full of volume. Amaya told me that with my "cute little head" she wanted to pull off an "Ariana Grande look".

"Wow." Is all I can say.

"That is what Levi will say when he sees you. Ok. So you are done with hair and makeup. Go put on your dress and shoes. I need to get ready." Amaya instructs as she gave me a light shove out of my chair. She immediately got to work on her makeup and hair.

Today is prom day...or night. The seniors were let out early from school and sent home to get ready. Amaya came home with me and started to get working on my makeup and hair. We have about 5 hours left until prom.

I was surprised she didn't want to get ready with Delilah. Her excuse was," Delilah told me her mother wanted her to get ready for with cousin who also attends Sparrowford. I didn't argue." I didn't bother question it further and let her do my hair.

I get my dress and gold shoes on. I try to look for some jewelry to wear and I notice the bracelet Levi gave me; I just know I have to put it on. An hour later, Amaya is done and has her dress on. She looks nice with her low bun with delicate curls on the side. Plus she finished the look with silver heels. Amaya suggests to take some selfies, which we do, then to head downstairs.

My godmother was there, at the end of the steps with her digital camera. She smiles at Amaya as she goes down the steps and stands beside her. I come down and my godmother begins to cry.

"Are you ok?" I rush over to her.

She wipes her tears away and steps back from me. Looking me up and down she takes some snaps from her camera and smiles at me.

"I am just so happy, sweetie. I get so hard about raising you and all. I want you to have the best. You deserved the best honey. I adopted you wanting you to have a chance. A chance that Faye and Spencer were not going to give you. And look at you now. All grown, going to prom, more likely to get valedictorian at your school. I am so glad I sent you to Sparrowford. You surely need it." She got teary again.

I gave her a big hug. Trying not to crush her since she is a tiny Asian woman. She is always there for me. I am glad she sent me to Sparrowford High School as well.

"How sweet." Amaya coos.

My godmother and I broke apart and we got to take pictures. After that, we grabbed our masks, got in Amaya's car, and headed to prom. Not at all I imagined getting there but, it is enough.

Amaya clears her throat," Hey Mackenzie."

I didn't look at her and just kept my eyes on the road in front of us.

"If you don't mind me asking, who are Faye and Spencer? I am assuming they are your parents but... I don't want to jump to conclusions."

I stay silent for a while. The only person I told this story to was...Levi. I have been with Amaya long enough and she became someone special to me as well. A friend when the other left.

"Yeah, Faye and Spencer Adams are my biological parents," I say silently.

Amaya shifts uncomfortably," So what happened to them?"

I take a huge breath, remembering what my godmother had told me many times before, to relay to Amaya right now," Faye Moore and Spencer Adams were childhood friends with my godmother. Her name was Nari Yi before she got married and changed it to Nari Abe. My godmother came from South Korea and was new but, Faye and Spencer brought her in their circle quickly. Actually, because they are so welcoming, that is how my godmother met my godfather, Naoe Abe who came from Japan."

Amaya interrupts me," I didn't see your godfather."

"He is on a business trip right now. I also have a little brother. His name is Hideki. He is currently at boarding school." I grin. I am so proud of Hideki. We all are in the Abe household.

"That is so cool. The story sounds so sweet, so what happened for it to go sour."

"Simple. Faye and Spencer had a spur of the moment at the age of 21 and got pregnant with me. According to godmother, things starting crashing down when I was born. Faye got postpartum depression and college with a baby was not very easy either. Spencer wasn't helping, determined to get the most of his college life. Added to the fact that both of my grandparents from each side were too disappointed in them to bother help raise me, Faye couldn't take it anymore. She left me with my godmother and disappeared. She knew that my godmother's family would take me in warmly and raise me. And that is what they did until my godmother had a diploma, job, and was married to Naoe. They adopted me and then had Hideki. My godparents are not really my 'godparents' but, just my adoptive parents that are really religious. That is why I call them that." I finish.

"What about your dad?"

"He visits from time to time. Obviously saying he is guilty of what he did to me. I find it stupid almost because he has a family with four kids yet, I have not met them. He doesn't care about me enough. " I fell like I was about to cry but, I suck it up. It was because of him that everything happened to Faye. Faye was only looking for the best for me. It seemed like he never cared.

"Is all this the reason for your apathy?" Amaya takes me out of my little mind rant.

"Not really. I guess I always felt socially awkward and lacked interest in things. Whenever Spencer comes over I run away and hide. I also found it better for me to be homeschooled than go to school. When I started to attend Sparrowford, I was so dull and unsociable. I wanted to become more normal. You and Levi helped me change and I am happy for that." I smile at her and she returns my smile.

"You are awesome, Makenzie. Truly awesome. I couldn't imagine going through what you have been going through." Amaya pats the steering wheel a bit in a toon.

"Thank you, Amaya. You are an amazing friend. I always thought you were mean like Delilah."

"Far from it. Delilah is not that bad as long you are not going after Levi. However, I never really saw them as a good couple. Levi practically sees her as a sister." She sighs.

Amaya was right about their relationship. The way Levi speaks about Delilah was like he was an older brother speaking about his little sister. Almost like how Spencer treated Faye, according to my godfather's words.

I chuckle a bit," If I know anything, childhood friends don't always have to be together. Even if they are, it is not always pretty."
