woes

let's talk: (black) parents beating their kids

yo guys

its been long since i did one of these let's talk thingies and this topic has been on my mind for a while

you know, in nigeria, its the norm for your parents to hit you when you've done something wrong or immoral

and we all know it's out of love but i came across a tweet which said that parents beating their kids out of love is an oxymoronic statement.

idk how true that is because although it's no doubt abuse can leave psychological damage, black/african parents have been beating their kids for generations and it's proven to be more beneficial than not. i'm not trying to say that it's all good to beat your kids, i just feel like it's a form of discipline which can be applied but obviously at reasonable amount.

but that's my opinion, and an opinion can always be countered. so please guys leave your perspectives on this topic and let's argue and all of that and just all be the open minded people we are
