“I like you too.”
Those words still echoed in my mind days later. It was ridiculous how him saying those four words could affect me so much, but it did. Recently when I was around him I was prone to blushing more, my heart beat faster, and I was clumsier. He had found the change to be incredibly entertaining and I was almost positive that he kept finding reasons to brush against me for the sole purpose of watching me make a fool out of myself. The weekend had been a bittersweet diversion from his teasing attitude. Kate had complained to me that she never saw me anymore unless Trey was glued to my side so I had stopped by her house to visit her.
“He took me for this romantic dinner and then asked me to be his girlfriend!” she squealed, finishing up her story on her last date with Shawn.
“That’s so exciting! Did you say ‘yes but only so long as you never cut your sexy-ass hair?’”
She scowled at me and pushed me slightly. “Shut up, or I’ll start talking about your love triangle.”
“Which doesn’t exist now that I broke up with Tyler.”
“True.” Kate nodded, looking a mixture of happiness for me and anger at Tyler. “By the way, Shawn says he never heard about the bet but he says Brad tried to talk them out of it and defended you, saying you were one of the few decent girls at the school.”
“That was nice of him.” I felt genuinely touched that Brad would tell his friends off for me when we were only friends in the vaguest sense of the term.
“Yeah well that was a dick move on Chase’s part to make the bet, and even bigger dick move on Ty’s part for taking it. They’re both tools.”
“Oh well, it got me out of having to date him for any longer. Perfect excuse really, especially since now I look like the victim and not the bad guy in front of the whole school.”
That had been another bonus of our break up. The entire school had taken my side once the video was leaked and Tyler’s popularity had begun to plummet. Tyler had joined Lizzy in shooting glares at me in class, however he was even easier to ignore then she was.
“But what’s going on with you and Trey?” Kate finally asked the question I had been dreading. “You guys sure seem... close.”
“Just because he likes to walk me to class-”
“With his arm around your shoulder.” she added.
“Yeah I get it.” I cut her off. “He likes to tease me, that’s it.”
“You really don’t see it, do you?” Kate asked. “Tess, I heard he turned down a bj from Lizzy before school the other day.”
I felt oddly elated and relieved when she said that, and I turned my head to the side slightly to avoid looking at Kate. “So?”
“Are you blushing?” Kate demanded, trying to look at my face.
“No!” I said too quickly.
“Oh my God, you have a crush on Trey!” she shrieked.
My blush deepened. “I think it might be a little more then a crush.” I muttered.
Kate heard me and she gasped. “You love him?”
I shook my head. “No, but I think I could.”
I peeked up at Kate to see her reaction, only to see that damn creepy smile again.
“Stop it. Whatever you’re going to say stop it.” I immediately told her.
