William's POV
The camp was going strong and the walls were finally up, but our food supplies were dwindling quickly. The gardens were infested with some sort of bug and none of the people in our camp knew how to fix it, but our town nerd was working on it.
"I figured it out," Timothy came running into my room with a spray bottle. "Follow me."
He ran out of the room then and I grunted as I got out of the bed. He was already spraying the leaves of the plants with whatever he made and I eyed him carefully. How did he know we would be able to consume them after he sprayed the mixture on the plants?
"There's no chemicals. It's all from the pantry," Timothy answered my thoughts and continued to spray the leaves. I patted him on the back and told him I'd let Harry know about it.
Harry's room was in the same house as mine, but down at the other end of the hallway. I looked in his room and he wasn't inside so I decided he must have been at the office. But he wasn't there either.
My sort-of girlfriend Leslie passed by in the corridor of the building as I ran down the stairs. Her blonde hair was swaying as she walked and I looked at her hips rocking back and forth with a gun holstered on her hip.
"Hey," I reached out to grab her arm.
"Hey you," she smiled at me with her wide smile and I felt my insides swirl with excitement of what her mouth could do to me.
"Um," I pushed away the impure thoughts and tried to remind myself of what I needed to ask her. "Have you seen Harry? I looked in the office and at the house but I haven't seen him around."
"No, but he probably went on a food run with Kevin and Rachel," she started to walk away with her sister to go get some breakfast, and I thanked her before turning around to go back to the office.
Harry was in no shape to go on a run and I told him that if he left he needed to tell me so I could have gone with him. We knew a herd of the infected were not too far from camp. That's why our supplies had been so low. We were waiting for the herd to pass us by before we sent a team out on a run. It was too dangerous and too risky.
He always thought differently though. When he set his mind to something, there was no coming back from it. He was going to do whatever he wanted to do. Even if his rib was still broken.
At that moment, I heard the gates rush open and a car spin out inside the camp.
Jesus Christ, Harry.
But as I looked through the window, it wasn't Harry. Only Kevin jumped out of the car. As he did so, he ran off to his house down the street not meeting any of his neighbors' eyes. Shit.
I ran to Kevin's house and heard him upstairs in the shower.
"Kevin!" I yelled at the door. He didn't answer and I rammed the door open with my shoulder.
He was sitting in the shower fully clothed letting the water run over him. I reached in, turned it off and dragged him out of the shower.
"Where is Harry?" My mind had completely forgotten about Rachel, but Harry was the only thing that held this camp together.
"There were so many infected. I panicked, Will. I-I saw Rachel get bit and-and..." his cries were exhausting and I fought everything in me telling me to beat the living shit out of him.
"Where's Harry?"
"I left him. He was surrounded and he was telling me to bring the food back to camp. I didn't...I'm sorry, Will."
