I can't believe that silly girl Kat believes in love! Love is a stupid thing. My parents prove that love is something that ruins lives. I am walking through the hall when I see Kat. She shoots me an angry look. Oh well, get over it, love is horrible. I think to myself.

"Hey dude." My friend Jake comes up behind me and slaps me on the back.

"Kat asked me out." I tell him.

"What did you say?" He looks to me with questioning eyes.

"No. Because love is stupid, it ruins lives, my parents prove that." I reply without a pang of guilt.

"At least give my friend a chance." Marie, one of the popular basketball players and also Kat's friend, walks up. Her eyes tell me that she is mad at me for breaking her friend's heart but I don't care.

I hear the bell ring, I start to class, Kat is in my next class sigh. I take my seat beside Matt. He looks at me but says nothing. I realize that the news of me rejecting Kat has got around the school.

"Good afternoon class." My teacher says. "Today you will be working with partners to write a short story about anything you want. Here are the partners: Marie and Matt, Jacob and Emma....

I zone out and don't listen to the rest of the names until I hear my name-Kat and Aiden. I hear a little squeal escape Kat's mouth. I look at her, she looks right back. This is officially the worst class ever!

"Get to work class!" The room starts to move and get with their partners. I see Marie and Matt give each other a hug, happy to be working together. I stand up and make my way to Kat. She is looking at me with googly eyes. She has obviously gotten over my rejection.

"What do you want to write a short story about? Animals? People? Love? History? Art? Sports? There are so many possibilities so just tell me one." Kat rambles.

"Love is totally out." I reply. "Let's write about animals."

"Okay. What kinds of animals?" Kat asks.

"Dogs and pigs." I tell her two random animals.

"Let's get started." Kat exclaims.

The hour and a half drags on forever.
