Cassandra had taken a turn for the worse, she was back on oxygen and could barely get out of bed. Alex was with her nearly every night because of this and hated the night shifts he was given and often sent Meredith over to take care of the girl. Meredith and Cassandra had began the short wedding planning for the small backyard wedding that was going to be taking place this evening, two days ago. Izzie rushing into the room took the dying girl off guard and looked to see that she had the wedding dress Cassandra picked out from a bridal shop online in hand.
"Last one in your size. Some bitch tried to take me down for it. But I kicked her ass." Izzie said smiling at Cassandra.
"Thank you for risking jail time to get my wedding dress."
"Are you gonna be able to get out of bed."
"You bet your ass, Izzie. Is the rain holding off?"
"For now. It's not supposed to start until really late tonight." Izzie said with a smile. Cassandra smiled back and scooted forward to get off the bed. Meredith helped her up and the three women walked into the bathroom that was attached to Cassandra's room. They began to curl her hair and do her makeup. Mason came in not even an hour later, carrying a stack of papers.
"Welcome back to wherever the hell you went." Cassandra said smiling, "I missed you."
"I come back and see our house in total chaos and find out you're getting married tonight. Thanks for the invite."
"You know you were invited. I asked Derek to call you."
"And he did. He also told me you were worse."
"What's the papers?" Cassandra asked ignoring the statement. He passed them over and looked them over. They had the Harvard insignia on them and she looked over what it said, "you did it. You re-enrolled?"
"They accepted me back with open arms and thought it was very honorable when I dropped to take care of my dying sister and I might have said that it was your dying wish to see me back in law school."
"Using my sickness you your own advantage. I'm so proud." Cassandra said happily before demanding a hug from her brother, "thank you. I'm so glad that you're doing this. You're going to be a great lawyer."
"You would've made one hell of a travel journalist."
"Don't I know it."
"How much longer until my little sister is hitched?"
"Two hours." Meredith said smiling, "now get out!" she said pushing Mason out of the door. Cassandra hadn't noticed she was crying, but she was.
"He did it. He finally did it. I'm about to get married. After that, everything will be checked off the list."
"Don't go dying tonight because your list is finished."
"I plan to have a nice night with my husband." Cassandra said with a smile.
The two hours flew by too quickly for Cassandra and she was being escorted towards the backyard by her brother. He was supporting nearly all her weight and whenever she tried to stand on her own, she nearly fell over. She was frustrated with herself that now of all times her body was deciding to do it's worse to her. She knew she probably wouldn't be alive to see the end of next week, so these next couple days were going to be filled with so much joy that she'd die happy.
"You look beautiful, Cass." Mason said from beside her. The doors were opened and she saw the beautiful twinkle lights that lines the many trees that consumed the backyard. She saw Alex underneath the glow of the light and admitted that he was truly beautiful and that he was a kind person. She was lucky to have found him, she only wished the circumstance was different and they could have a future together. But that was impossible.
The ceremony was short and sweet, but was due to the fact that Alex was concerned that the cold rain that had started the moment she walked outside was going to make her more sick. But they stood there in the rain and got married. They went inside and she was dried off as best as Meredith could before she pictures were being snapped of the couple. She sat down in the middle and starred at the plate filled with all her favorite foods in front of her. Alex sat next to her and kissed her.
"So Cassandra Karev has a nice ring to it." Alex said pulling away
"It really does." Cassandra said kissing him again. She couldn't get enough of his lips. She wanted to remember them perfectly in her death. The way they felt rough against her own soft lips. She was immersed in everything Alex did, she was so thankful for getting to meet him.
"So I managed to get us a hotel room for us tonight."
"Oh fancy. I'm ready for the married life sex." Cassandra said quietly so only Alex heard. He gave her a look and helped her stand.
"I think I can steal the bride away for awhile." Alex directed Cassandra to her room and she smiled when they got inside.
When they emerged again, they tried to sneak out of the bedroom but were caught by Izzie. She smirked and walked away leaving them to get out of the bedroom, "we've been caught." Cassandra said smiling back at Alex.
"I think so."
"Oh well." she shrugged and turned too quickly, causing her to lose her balance and fall into Alex. She looked up and kissed his chin, "I wish I would've met you sooner." she whispered.
"I do too."
