Luca stared at him for a moment.
"I don't know what you see, but I've been able to see in colour for as long as I could remember," he shrugged. "I didn't know it wasn't a normal thing until I was seven."
Dustin stared at the 10 above Luca's head. A sign? A warning? He disliked not knowing.
"Have you ever done something to hurt anyone?" Dustin asked, surprising himself and Luca.
"I, um..." Luca trailed off. "Nothing that I know of."
"You're a bad liar. You'll have to tell me someday," Dustin frowned.
Luca vaguely smiled.
"We'll see, Mr. Kay," he murmured.

Dustin had (somehow) convinced Luca to go on a walk with him after classes, and Luca smiled to himself when he saw how Dustin kept staring at everything. Once they say at one of the park benches, he spoke.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Luca asked.
"Colours," Dustin replied softly.
"What's it like? Seeing in black and white?"
"You can't really explain it. It's like watching a movie, but the colour spectrum is simultaneously limited and endless," was Dustin's thoughtful reply.
"So, I'm your 'soul mate'?" Luca asked. "I never really believed all of that."
"I'm still not sure if I do either. Maybe it's some sort of development flaw, and it just happened to start when I met you. I was going to talk to you anyway."
"Why do you keep doing that?" Luca questioned.
"Doing what?"
"Looking over my head. There's nothing there."
If only you knew, sweet boy, Dustin thought sarcastically.
"I don't know. Just distracted."
"Like I was going to say, I may not know you well, but I can tell you have a good heart," Luca continued, taking hold of Dustin's hand. "I'd be happy to call you my soul mate once I know you better."
"And when does that start?" Dustin asked, painfully aware of how close Luca's face was.
"I think... now..." Luca replied in a soft voice.
