Luca shifted on his feet, nervously fiddling with his cigarette.
Just knock, he told himself. He brought his hand to the door and stopped. No. He couldn't do it.
Luca rang the doorbell and stepped away, debating whether to disappear or stay. He hesitated too long.
Dustin answered, his golden brown eyes staring at him in confusion.
"Do I know you?" he asked.
That sentence broke Luca's heart.
"Uh, no," Luca lied. "I, um... I go to class with you."
"Oh. Did you need something?" Dustin asked, leaning against the doorframe, crossing his arms.
"I just wanted to know if you'd be interested in going on a walk with me," Luca asked softly.
"I'm kinda busy at the moment," Dustin said slowly. "Are you sure I don't know you?"
"Yeah! No, you don't," Luca said quickly. Luca planned on searching everywhere for some scrap of information or some way to return Dustin's memories.
"I'll go," Dustin nodded. "I'd also like to know why you're lying about not knowing me."
Fuck, Luca thought.
"I just go to class with you. You've seen me around."
Dustin stared at him and slowly nodded.
"Okay. Makes sense."
Luca wondered whether or not he could get away with explaining everything to Dustin without receiving his father's wrath.
"You were supposed to be my soul mate," Luca blurted out. "A few months ago, you came up to me in class, and you asked me if I saw 'that'. I didn't know what you meant until I got to talk to you. We... we were happy together, for a few months. We slept with each other once. But my father... my father erased your memories of me." Dustin dragged a hand through his hair, slowly digesting the information.
"So, I lost memories of you? So, what? Was I beat up and left with amnesia or something? Is that why people have been asking me about someone named Luca?"
"That's me. My name is Luca James. I loved you, Dustin. And you loved me too. I fell in love with you. Not because we were 'meant to be', but because we were good together," Luca pleaded. "Dustin, you have to remember me."
"Luca -"
"Lu. You called me Lu," Luca corrected, and wiped his eyes. No. He wouldn't start crying now.
"Lu," Dustin said gently. "Give me some time to process this, okay? There must have been a reason if your dad found a way to take away my memories of you."
"But there wasn't! He didn't want us to be together," Luca lied. "He's against men being together." That wasn't a lie. Azrael was displeased with his son because of that fact, but couldn't change it.
"Lu, please," Dustin murmured, taking his hand. "If we were together, let me think for awhile. I'll call you if I need to know anything, alright?" Luca nodded, taking Dustin's phone and putting his number in. He wiped his eyes again and started to walk away.
"'Merrily we fall, out of line'," Luca whispered.
"'I'd fall anywhere with you'," Dustin said, instinctively, and blinked. How had he known that?
Luca smiled sadly and turned, walking down the hallway.
"Luca?" Dustin called after him.
"Yeah?" he replied, turning around.
"Can you stay? I think it's better if we talk now."~~~~~~Author's Note~~~~~~~
Hi. I hope people are enjoying the story so far. There will be around 6+ more chapters until it ends. (I'm so sorry.) But I may be doing an alternate storyline/one shots with Luca and Dustin if people are interested.~Jackson
