Christy's POV

------------------

I woke to the sound of rain lightly pattering against the window. "Great. Just another thing to remind me of him."

I was still in denial not only that I'd actually saved a man's life, but that the man was Hunter Hayes. Or, at least, I thought it was him. Who else could it be? The image of his blood-stained, wet face was ingrained in the front of my eyes like a photo I couldn't stop staring at.

And I knew it had to be him.

But that's a really big deal. What if he had died? What if he's died since then? That was two nights ago. I hadn't heard anything on the news. Nothing about even an accident involving him.

I turned on the news and chuckled, only to be quickly stolen from the moment of irony that was replaced by concern as I stared intently at the screen.

"BREAKING: Country Heartthrob Hunter Hayes (21) Involved in Tour Bus Crash; in Critical Condition" the headline read. There was a lady with light brown hair talking interviewing a police officer, but I wasn't listening. I just stared at the words. There wasn't any doubt now.

I was snapped out of my trance when I heard the woman say something that seemed to jump from the TV's speakers.

"The following is a statement released by the Hayes family."

I listened intently as the words popped up on the screen as she read.

"As many have heard, Hunter's tour bus was indeed involved in an accident outside of Nashville just before midnight last Friday. Hunter has a broken ankle and a severe concussion, and is dealing with some complications of those injuries. His condition has stabilized, however, he is going to remain in the hospital for an undetermined period of time. Doctors here have been very professional and have handled Hunter's condition in a first-class manner. We are also in great debt to the bystanders who assisted our family and friends at the scene. Hunter's life may very well have been saved by the actions of those at the scene before the paramedics arrived. Hunter and the rest of our family and friends deeply appreciate the support and prayers we have received. We ask that you please respect our privacy as we address and move through this difficult situation."

He's alive. But that's not the part that stood out to me the most.

"His life may very well have been saved by the actions of those at the scene before the paramedics arrived."

I looked at the clock, which read 9:14. Sunday morning. I needed to get ready for church. And breathed a sigh of relief in remembering that I wasn't slated to be on the worship team today. Especially with what I had just read, I was in no shape to sing.

I got in the shower and was overcome with relief. I had saved a man's life. I didn't care that he was Hunter Hayes. His notoriety meant nothing. He was alive, and that in itself seemed like the most gratifying thing in the world. I felt a tear escape down my cheek, and I said a quick prayer before hopping out of the shower to get ready for church.
