He pulled back suddenly, looking almost frantic.

"I'm sorry, that's not, that wasn't, um, right. I didn't mean to. I'm sorry. I gotta go."

I was surprised but confused.

"Wait, Hunter, what?"

"We just kissed Christy!"

"Yeah?"

"That's not right."

That stung.

"Why? How?"

"It's just not right, it's too soon, you said you didn't want..."

"But I just told you, I wasn't unsure, I wouldn't have run after you if-"

"I like you a lot Christy. I really do. But I'm not sure this is right."

"How would you know?" I asked him, now a little hurt. I didn't know what I was feeling, whether or not I actually liked him like that, but whatever had just happened, whatever we had right then, I didn't mind. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy it, either, but I didn't know why he was suddenly pushing away.

"How would you know, Christy?"

"What I do know, Hunt, is that that wasn't a one-way street. I kissed back, you know that."

"I don't know. We need to think this over, separately. I need to go. I'll see you. I'm sorry."

And he got in his car without looking back, and drove away.

And whatever had just happened, whatever odd turn our night had just taken, hurt me more than it should've.
