"Our last night in Texas, what do you wanna do?" Lucas asked. "The stars look so pretty, lets just go build a campfire." She stared at him excitedly. "And by we, you mean me." He stared back, joking around. "Yes now get to it, I will go get blankets."
"Oh come on Ranger Rick, its been 10 minutes." Maya wined as she lay the blanket down on the cold ground. She fluffed two pillows to put their heads on. Suddenly flames shot up from the fire pit. "And you have warmth." He teased. They laid down on the blanket staring up at the sky. All they could hear was the twigs cracking in the fire.
Maya started to point at the way the stars lined up just perfectly. "That one looks like a birthday cake." She giggled moving closer to Lucas. Maya was watching the stars but he was watching her.
He leaned over and kissed her mid-sentence. He cupped her cheeks and she felt the rough skin on his hands. At first she didn't react but fell into the moment and kissed back. It felt like it lasted forever but Maya pulled away, shifting on her spot so she could lay her head on him.
They stayed like that for a long time, in silence just being happy. Soon the fire gave out and they went inside.
