Chapter Two
Winnie woke up and her world felt different. She didn’t wake up to the peace of the nice castle; she woke up to a butler knocking on the wall. “Winnie,” he said in a strong voice, “the kitchen is waiting for you. The king and queen are going to be hungry and I don’t think they are going to feed themselves.”
“Yes, sir.” Winnie grumbled as she rolled out of bed. The butler left, not even showing Winnie where to go. Winnie figured this was how it would be, so she hurried off, leaving Liz undisturbed. She could never forget where the Banquet Room was considering that that was the first room she had been in when she came to the castle. After series of turns and various stairs and corridors, Winnie finally made it to the room that she was brought to yesterday
Winnie walked through the door, past the extremely long table, and through the double doors that led to the kitchen. Winnie looked through the icebox and then to the fireplace with a rack over it. She saw in the ice box that there was some meat. Winnie placed the meat over the fire and started to prepare the rest of the dishes.
By the time Winnie was done cooking, the King, Queen, and Liz were waiting for the food to be served. Winnie smiled as she placed the cooked meat in strips on the table, with little potato circles on the side. She took the four glasses and filled them with milk that was just delivered. Then, she placed all the glasses on the table and passed out the golden plates and silverware. After that, Winnie sat down next to Liz. Liz looked at her like she wanted to tell her something, something of significant importance.
Winnie dug into her food starving from preparing it. She tasted the meat and potato circles. They were delicious. Liz didn’t say a word as she ate. In fact, no one said anything. Winnie figured that it was time to eat, not to talk. When everyone was finished she took all the plates to clean.
“Liz, come on. We have a meeting for school to go to.” Loretta said.
“Mom, it’s just on the other side of the castle. Big deal.” Liz said as she walked away into the kitchen.
“Hey Winnie,”
“I’m kind of busy. What can I help you with?”
“Well I think you know, but I’ll tell you anyways. I’m sorry.”
“For what? Being the princess and not having to get up like the servants do. Like maybe at six in the morning!” Winnie said to Liz having a snotty, bratty attitude.
“Like I can help it! I was born this way. I didn’t choose it!”
“Is this what you came here for, because I’m just a little busy being a servant.”
“I was going to say,” Liz started, “that I will get up and help you if you want me to. I love to cook and I want to help you.”
“Really?”
“Yes really, why not?”
“I don’t know I just thought…” But Winnie drifted off not able to finish. Liz had been so good to her. What was she saying?!’
“What? That I’m the princess!” Liz rolled her eyes. “Just because I was born a princess doesn’t mean I don’t want a real life. I want to help you. Do you want my help or not.”
“Sure. I would really like someone to accompany me while I cook.” Winnie said, guiltily.
“Ok.” Liz said smiling. “What are we cooking tomorrow?”
Winnie laughed and sighed, “I have no idea. Whatever is in the icebox I guess.”
Liz and Winnie laughed at the same time. “I have to show you where our class is.”
“Ok.” Winnie said, as they walked out of the kitchen side by side. If you didn’t know any better you would have thought that they were sisters.
