Chapter Fifteen

“Mary?” Winnie asked, as she fully opened the door to Mary’s room.

“Hello, Winnie. Did you have a good birthday?”

“It was great,” Winnie said, not sure where she should start. “The fair was awesome.”

“I’m glad you liked it. It was always a great time when I went.”

“And guess who we ran into?”

 “Who did you run into?”

 “Trevor.”

 “As in my Trevor?”

“Yes, your Trevor, the one that you like. We saw him. Well technically Liz saw him and was talking to him.”

“What did he say?” Mary asked, now eagerly into the conversation.

“He told her that he still likes you. He hopes to come see you soon. He really misses you, but being a squire apparently requires some serious work and effort and commitment.”

“It does. I remember the ‘boot camp’ they called it, here at the castle. It was serious training. Some of the gentlemen had never ridden a horse before. That’s how I met Trevor. He had never ridden a horse before and fell off.”

“Was there someone by the name of Edward at the training camp?”

“Yes, I believe that there was. I never really associated with him though. He was a little bit younger. Probably your age. Why?”

“I met him at the fair and…?”

 “You didn’t.”

“Well, he took me for a horse ride and then he held me in his arms. I looked into his eyes and I felt safe there. We could have been in the middle of armed fire and I still would have felt safe right in his arms.”

“That’s true feelings right there. That’s how I felt with Trevor. It really means something Winnie. Don’t let that feeling go.”

“He kissed me, Mary, and, I don’t know, I just like him. A lot.”

 “I know how you feel.”

“He promised me that he would find time to come see me. He promised he would see me, but part of me doesn’t believe it. Trevor really seems to like you, and he hasn’t been able to see you. I don’t want that to happen with Edward and me. Did you ever ‘lose hope?’”

“I guess not, but I waited for about two months on my balcony, waiting for him to come and hoping that I would see him. After that realization sinks in, you don’t give up, you just have a ‘sour attitude’ towards the subject. I know that it took about six months for me to be comfortable with talking about Trevor, and how he still hasn’t shown up. If you felt something, Winnie, chances are he felt something too. If you still have feelings for him, they are probably going to stay the same for him.”

Winnie didn’t know what to say. It didn’t look like it was going to be easy for her to accept a lot of Edward not being able to see her. She knew deep down in her heart though, that she had strong feelings for Edward, and, judging by the way he was at the fair, he had the same feelings for her in return.

“Did you tell anyone about Trevor?”

“No, I never really did. Nobody asked me, so I didn’t see a reason to talk about it. I’m assuming that I’m the first person you have really told about Edward?”

“Yes, I guess. I told Liz, but not in as much feeling as I did telling you. I knew that we could relate.” Winnie said, sighing. She sat on the balcony, next to Mary, and daydreamed that Edward would come and save her.
