Chapter Six
Winnie sat down at the long table where she had sat the first time she was here.
“Would you go check and see how many people are here for the luncheon?”
“Sure thing, Winnie. I should be right back.”
Winnie laughed and sighed. It wasn’t all that hard to cook the various types of food. It was hard to keep up with life as it flew by her. One second, she was with her parents. Then she was taken from them to go to the castle. Shortly after arrival, Liz left her. She also had to cook in between, but then she met Mary and now Liz was home again.
Mary came back winded. She was gasping for air as she said “There is twenty-four of them…and...they are...right around...the corner...so if you...don’t have...all the plates...out…you should…get them…quickly.”
Mary sighed with relief when she finished saying that. She ran to Winnie’s side to help her get the table set. Right as they finished setting the table and stood by the door to greet the guests as they came in.
All the kings and queens walked in, two by two. Winnie seated them accordingly. Lastly, bringing up the rear of the line was Queen Loretta, King Charles, and Liz. Liz tried to hide the shock on her face as to how well Winnie had done. Winnie saw this right away and felt hurt.
“Look at Liz,” Winnie whispered to Mary, “all surprised that someone like me, a servant, could do all this. She is such a princess.” Winnie said distastefully.
“I don’t think so,” Mary started standing up for Liz but trying not to hurt Winnie. “I honestly think that she is amazed that you could do all this in such short time. Winnie, the room does look amazing. And Liz isn’t like that either, Winnie, she is not anywhere near being a snobby princess.”
“I know, but still. I can see something in her eyes.”
“Well, all I know is that the old cook we used to have never cooked as amazing as you do, never decorated the room this nicely. Now shall we.” Mary asked, glancing toward the king as he readied himself to prepare his speech.
“Attention, attention everyone. Eyes up here please.” King Charles said, banging his silverware against his golden goblet. “Thank you. Now I just wanted to say welcome to my castle. We have a new servant cooking for us, so let’s hope it is better than our last. Enjoy.”
Everyone dug into the food, although eating very properly. Liz sat down near her parents. The twelve couples of kings and queens separated Liz from Winnie. Winnie knew she was not allowed to talk at the table but she saw Liz’s troubled expression that she had seen before. She wanted to tell Winnie something badly.
By the time Winnie finished eating, she went around to collect the guests’ plates. Every couple of people would comment on how delicious it was. Finally, when everyone was done, Winnie took the plates to wash them.
Mary was getting questions from all the kings and queens. She glanced at Winnie to say that she would be there as soon as she could. Winnie sighed, taking the dishes to the bucket and washing them. She pondered her mind for what Liz could possibly have to tell her.
By the time she finished washing the dishes all the kings and queens had exited. Mary was left cleaning the table then walked out the door not acknowledging her presence. Winnie knew something was up.
Winnie marched up what seemed like millions of flights of stairs until she reached the room she shared with Liz. Without even a knock on the door, Winnie barged in.
A/N I know it's short! I will have more soon i promise! Enjoy!
