Chapter Twenty-Four
Winnie watched the sun rise at the castle one last time. She knew that it was time to go. She looked over at Liz who was sleeping restlessly. She knew that if she left without saying good bye, Liz would hate her forever, but she didn’t want to wake up.
“Don’t even think about going anywhere.” Liz mumbled as she woke up.
“I wouldn’t dare,” Winnie joked.
Liz gave Winnie one last hug. They were both sad, Liz more so than Winnie. “You need to come back and visit sometime.” Liz said, and Winnie was a little taken aback.
“You mean that I can actually…come back?”
“Well of course!” Liz exclaimed like it was natural for that such thing to happen.
“I promise to come back and visit.”
“I’m going to miss you!” Liz said, hugging Winnie one last time, a single tear fell down both of their cheeks.
Together, they walked down to see Mary and Trevor. Winnie couldn’t help but feel a little pang of guilt. Everyone here loved her, and she loved them too, but she had to leave.
When they walked in, they saw Trevor sleeping and Mary watching him like a hawk. She would never let anything happen to him.
“Are you leaving today?” Mary asked. Winnie could only nod her head. She would be too sad to possibly accept that she was leaving everyone. She would have gone over the edge if Edward didn’t come up behind her, putting a hand on her shoulder. He instantly calmed her. Even though they just met, she really had strong feelings for him.
“I just wanted to say good bye.” Winnie said quietly and she gave Mary a hug.
“I’m going to be expecting to see you,” Mary said, tears falling down her face.
“Oh, trust me, you will be seeing a lot more of me.” Winnie said with a smile.
Trevor started coughing, and almost as if it was a reflex, Mary was by his side, helping him. His eyes opened up, and he looked at me.
“Leaving so soon?” He asked, his voice barely able to be heard.
Winnie laughed and Mary started to walk away. “I really do have to thank you. If it wasn’t for you and your friend, Liz, I would never have even known that Mary was still alive. And Edward, he helped me because you told him to. I don’t know what I would have done without you.” Winnie couldn’t help but be touched by this.
“And I have to thank you. You make Mary happy. That is all I can ask for. But, I have to set something straight with you. If you break her heart, I will have the king behead you.”
Trevor laughed, even though he knew that Winnie was dead serious. His pale face was starting to turn a more natural pinky color and he wasn’t sweating nearly as much.
“I really hope that you feel better, Trevor.” Winnie said, and she shook his hand.
“Liz I-” Winnie started, but stopped abruptly when she saw Liz wasn’t there. “Where is she?” Winnie asked, now turning and looking to Mary for her answer.
“She told me that I have to take you somewhere,” Mary said. She grabbed her hand and dragged her, not knowing exactly where she was going.
When they got there, they were entering what looked to be a dining area. Why was she here? Was Mary truly crazy?
Winnie saw two figures sitting at the table. “Winnie, come and take a seat.” Winnie’s stomach started to jumble. What could this possibly be about? Was she in some sort of trouble? The last thought that came to her mind was the worst one. Would she be able to leave?
