Chapter Eighteen

“Well now that’s embarrassing.” Liz said with a laugh. A guard was standing right in their way. He had yet to notice them, but it was only a short matter of time before he did.

“What are we going to do?”

“We cannot even make it ten steps out of the castle! My goodness this is ridiculous! And let me handle this.” Liz said with a smug smile.

“Good evening sir, my name is PRINCESS Liz and I believe we have a destination to be getting to.”

“Well my apologizes princess but I cannot let you leave. I am under the order that no one is allowed to leave the garden.”

“Do you like your job, sir?”

“My job? What does that have to do with you trying to leave?”

“Do you like it, sir?” Liz said sternly again.

“Well, yes, of course I do.”

“Then if you want to keep it you will move out of my way.”

“I’m sorry, princess, but I cannot do that.”

“Well wait until Daddy finds out. He would not tolerate unhappiness from his daughter. His only child. So my suggestion to you is that you move.”

“No. The king will fire me here before I move.”

“Well then, let’s see shall we? What is it that you have done wrong today? You have insulted my intelligence, disrespected me in the most severe of ways, and you mistreated the princess, who, may I remind you, is the heir to the throne. It would be a shame if just maybe one day you just went, I don’t know, missing?”

 “I did no such things!”

“Well I’m sorry to say that if you don’t move, not only will you be fired and maybe executed for the severity of the disrespect and mistreatment you displayed for me today, but I will also, well, not feel bad for doing this.”

“Doing what?” The guard barely finished when Liz elbowed him right in the face.

“And I am not sorry I did that. I gave him the easy way out.” Liz said with a shrug, acting like she did this all of the time.

“Where in the world did that come from?” Winnie said, surprised. “I know that it’s something that I would do but I would not expect that coming from a princess.” Liz laughed.

“We honestly better get going before someone finds him like this with us standing here or he comes back to consciousness. Either way I do not want to stick around to find out.” Liz pulled me into the woods, and let me lead the way.

“Why are you doing this, Liz? I know you do not want to be in the woods.”

“I never come here anymore. I used to be able to come here whenever I pleased. Now I’m under strict lockdown. It’s awful.” Winnie laughed because she didn’t know what else to say.

“I just need to find some wood and then I can make a few bows and arrows.”

“I still find it strange that you enjoy shooting a bow and arrow. You did this for fun?”

“Yes. It’s really fun! I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to be the only one sitting on the sideline watching people fight to protect me. I’m going to help.”

“Agreed, but first I need to learn how to even use one of those things.”

 “Bows,” Winnie corrected.
