Chapter Nineteen
Mary stood up from the table, and began to walk out. This was not how a dinner with royalty was supposed to go, but Mary could have cared less. They had her sister! Her younger sister. Mary’s whole life she had tried to protect her sister. She did everything in her power so that her sister could be provided for. And this is what she got in return for all of this? No. That was not how it was going to happen. She didn’t care what it was going to take, but Mary had to get her out of here.
“Just remember, I have eyes everywhere,” Her aunt had said to her as she stormed out of the Dining Hall, looking everywhere for her sister. The way her aunt said it made her sound like the conniving evil person that she really is.
Winnie saw Mary walk out, and she could only imagine what she was thinking. Liz glared at Rachelle, the first gesture that was out of proper manner that she had made all night! “Where are you keeping her?” Liz asked, seeing as though her parents had failed to fill in the silence that had now overcome the room.
“She’s with us.” Was the simple, snarky remark that Liz had gotten in return. She looked to her parents for help, but they looked unphased.
“Well I am the princess and I DEMAND that you release her back to her home with her mother and father.”
“We aren’t in need of any more help around here,” Loretta said nicely.
“You allow Mary and your own daughter to treat me like this?” Rachelle complained. Loretta looked as though she had had enough of her too.
“I advise that you do as I instructed you, or so help me you will be brutally punished. Wait till I am queen. Just wait! Because I promise you that you will regret every wrong decision that you made!” Liz then left in disgust with her guests.
Winnie looked around at everyone, unsure of what to do. She was left in a very awkward situation to say the least. Winnie stood up, and took the plates of herself, Mary, and Liz, and went to the scullery to clean them up before retreating back up to her quarters.
“Where is she?” Mary screamed, tears running down her face. Winnie had just gotten up to her room.
“We will find her,” Liz said, trying to reassure her.
“I can find her.” I said, calmly.
“How?” They both turned around and asked me.
“The butlers must know. You really think that Rachelle would have taken the time to hide her herself? She didn’t, that I can guarantee you.” No one seemed to understand. “It was king’s orders that I find…” Winnie trailed off, not knowing Mary’s sister’s name.
“Colette,”
“It was king’s orders that I find Colette right away. She is needed. Do you really think that they are going to question me? I am the king’s servant! I serve the king! If the king is not served on behalf of a butler, do you really think that there is a good future in store for this butler?” Winnie seemed to convince both Mary and Liz, so she walked out before either of them could think it through and object.
Winnie walked down to the first floor, near the entrance. It was there that Winnie saw a butler, dressed in a black and white suit. “Excuse me!” Winnie called to the butler. The butler looked at her dryly, and looked the other way, pretending not to have heard her.
“Excuse me!” Winnie called again. The butler began to walk away from her, and the only thing Winnie could do to avoid admitting defeat, was to follow him; chase him.
“I really hope you aren’t walking away from the princess.” This time, it wasn’t Winnie’s voice who spoke. Winnie knew that voice anywhere. It belonged to Liz.
