"Well we are here."
Axel opened the door to his apartment and stepped inside with Esperanza close behind. She began to scan her surroundings to see what kind place would be her new home. There was a flat screen TV that was old and not very big but pretty in her eyes as she had never seen one before. Much of what Axel owned was vintage: a big couch that looked like it could fit 10 people with no problem and a glass table with wooden chairs that was near the couch. As Axel looked at Esperanza analyzing the apartment he said to her,
"This is what I call the living room, a lot of people call this area of a home that."
"Oh I didn't know that."
Axel smiled at this statement,
"I figured with the way you were looking around, the place over there is what's called the kitchen."
Esperanza moved her eyes over to where there was an area with a light brighter than the others.
"Come, I'll show what's in the kitchen." Esperanza listened and went over with him.
"This right here is the refrigerator, that's the oven, above that is the microwave, and these are cabinets where I keep my dishes, cups, and food." Axel explained.
"What do you do in here?" Esperanza asked.
"This is where I make food if I don't go out and buy it."
"You can make food?!?"
"Why yes of course. How did you end up getting your food around here?"
Esperanza wasn't sure how to answer this question, she felt safe in this home and around Axel; but at the same time didn't feel that she knew him well enough for him to know all about her past and her real feelings of insecurities of her past. But she decided to cave in and tell the man that she was only able to steal food with the small amount of money that she had. He looked at her in pity and offered that he would make something for her that night. Her pupils sparkled at the thought of home made food,
"I would love that!"
Esperanza exclaimed. But a second later Axel's phone rang. Axel answered,
"Hello? Constance?"
"Axel we've been assigned to go downtown to inspect what looks to be a group of people doing something bad."
"Ok I'll be right there"
Axel looked at a confused Esperanza and said to her,
"I have to go there's something going on downtown and I need you to stay here for me, can you do that?""Why?"
"Please it's classified information and I have to leave now just stay in the house where it's safe."
"It's not safe?!" She answered with widened eyes.
"I don't know just stay here."
Axel said as he walked out and shut the down.Esperanza sat and stared at the blank TV screen, she didn't know what to do. She was left all alone once again. The memories all came back to her in that moment, when she was told that she needed to leave her own house because she didn't belong there anymore.
She didn't understand why because she saw the pain in her parents eyes as they watched their only daughter leave when she did not know where she would be going. A tear fell down her face at the thought of her parents, wondering if they still thought of her and if she would ever be able to see them again.
She looked up to see that Axel's apartment had windows on the ceiling so that you could see the sky perfectly. It was then that she began to drift into the stars at all the thoughts that she had. She could feel her mom in those moments, almost as if she were watching over her. But Esperanza's spell was interrupted by a bang on the front door. She quietly got up to look through the peephole and see who it was.
