Chapter Fifteen

It's been three weeks since Luke and I got back together. A lot has happened since then. Classes have started up and I've been as busy as ever. So far my hardest class is Phycology. It's impossible. But Luke has been coming over everyday and things are getting back to the way they used to be.

On the down side, Niall and the boys had to leave America. Right now they're doing some shows around the UK and working on their album. Since they left, Niall and I don't talk like we used to. He doesn't respond to my texts or answer any of my calls. Each time I talk to him, he says he's busy and leaves right away. I guess that's understandable, considering they're getting ready for their tour and working on their album and documentary. But I still missed them. I had become really close with Niall and Harry while they were here.

Since I've starting attending my classes I've met tons of cool people and made loads of new friends. Some of them I met through my classes, like Autumn, Chloe, and Ryder. Others I met around the campus, like Adam, Brooklyn, and Troye.

I was lost in thought when my phone started ringing and brought me back to reality.

"Hello?" I asked into the phone.

"Katie, have you been on twitter today?" It was Troye, one of my best guy friends. We had met on the first day when I couldn't figure out where I was supposed to go. He had been at Stanford for two years already so when he saw me struggling he helped me. Turned out we had a lot of things in common. We both looked like preps but listened to the punk alternative music like Sleeping With Sirens, All Time Low, Pierce the Veil, Mayday Parade, etc.

"Well that isn't anyway to treat your bestest friend now is it Troye?" I asked him jokingly.

I heard him sigh into the phone. "Hello my gorgeous best friend. Is that better?" he asked flately.

"Yes, thank you." I said, laughing. I heard him chuckle a bit before asking, "Now, what did you need?"

"Oh right! Twitter, have you been on it today?" he asked me again.

"Um, no not yet why?"

"I just saw something and I don't think you need to see. So don't get on, okay?" he told. When he said this he sounded concerned.

"What did you see Troye?"

"I'm sure it was nothing. Just a misunderstanding," he said and I started to get really nervous.

"Troye, tell me what you saw or I'll go see for myself," I told him sternly. I'm sure this is nothing, so I'm not sure why he is making such a big deal out of it.

"Katie, don't. You don't want to know and I don't want to tell you. It's probably just a ru-" I didn't hear what else he had to say because I ended the call and logged onto my Twitter acount.

Once it loaded, I refreshed my feed to see what popped up. I read through a handful of them before I saw a link to a picture. Curious, I clicked on it and was devastated by what I saw. It was a picture of a some girl with Luke. She had tweeted, "Had a great time last night Luke we should do it again sometime ;)"

I didn't recognize her so I clicked on her profile. After studying her name and picture, it clicked. She was girl that I had seen around the campus a few times. She was a year older than me and was studying to become a teacher. Her name was Bethany George and she was absolutely gorgeous, of course. She had long blonde hair that fell to her mid-back. She had golden brown, almost hazel eyes and a smile that could brighten a room, like Luke's. And everything about her was natural. No fake tan, hair coloring, caked on makeup...She could turn heads anywhere she went. To make it even worse, she seemed like a good person. She was never really mean to anyone and helped people out. Bethany was also extremely smart and could juggle academics with every extracurricular activity she was in, which was a lot. I guess you could say she was... perfect, really.

I felt my heart break in my chest. I couldn't compete with Bethany. Of course Luke liked her, everyone did. I took in a shaky breath and told myself to calm down. Luke wouldn't cheat on me. Or would he? I just don't know anymore. Maybe I'm reading too much into this.

I closed out Twitter and dialed a number I knew by heart. I waited and waited and heard the ringing in my ear. The final ring came then the beep. "This is Luke. You know what to do."

"Hey Luke," I said into the answering machine, "we need to talk. Call me as soon as you get this."

Niall's POV

I walked off stage feelin' great. The crowds have been absolutely amazing every night and I don't ever want the night to end! None of them compared to the one we did in California two weeks ago though. Katie had been at that one and I got to see her every time I looked at the crowd. I could see her beautiful face smiling back at me.

I made my way into the dressing room and changed clothes. I sat down on the couch and wanted to fall asleep. Preforming was always tiring. We ran back and forth the entire stage who knows how many times, and we sang our hearts out every night. We didn't want to disappoint our fans with a horrible show, so we put everything we have into them.

"Niall! Let's go! Head to the bus! We have to be in Cardiff by tomorrow," Paul yelled at me as he walked into the dressing room.

"Ughhhh, Paul can you carry me to the bus? I'm tooo tired," I whined. All I wanted to do was lay there and sleep the day away.

"Come on Niall. The bus is gonna leave without you if you don't hurry up!" he yelled and walked away.

"Okay I'm coming! I'm coming!" It took everything I had to pull myself off of the couch and walk out of the dressing room. I shuffled out of the building and over to the running tour bus. Paul wasn't kidding. They really were gonna leave me there.

Once on the bus I walked over and sat next to Harry who was on the sofa, playing FIFA.

"Wanna play?" he asked me.

"No. I'm too tired," I said and curled into a ball.

"You better sleep up. Tomorrow's gonna be a rough day."

"Why is that?" I asked him sitting up again.

"Well, 5SOS has their first gig with us tomorrow and I know how you feel about him and the whole Katie thing."

My heart dropped again. I hadn't remembered they were opening for us starting in Cardiff. Every time I heard Katie's name or something that reminded me of her, I felt like shriveling up into a ball and staying like that forever. I had started ignoring her because talking and getting to know her better was so easy, but I knew she would never choose me.

"Oh, right," I said to Harry and stood up. I walked over to my bunk and trued to go to sleep, but it was impossible. I couldn't stop thinking about her now. I figured that I had might as well as open Twitter, seeing I wouldn't be sleeping anytime soon. I read through a load of tweets, most of them from our fans, before I ran into one from Katie.

"I should have known better," it read.

What was this about? What happened? I clicked on her profile and read through her recent tweets. I gasped when I saw what they were. Most of them were replies from hate. Some said, "i hate you. you dont deserve someone like luke." Others said, "why don't u go away and stay away from luke. he deserves someone as fun and kind hearted as him." She would reply with things like, "Just leave me alone!" or "Can you really not find something better to do with your time?" After a while she just kinda gave up. One of more recent ones said, "I wonder if ur right...."

This isn't good. I saw one with a picture and clicked on it. I sat up so quickly when I saw it I hit my head on the top of my bunk. It was a picture of Luke with a girl, a girl that was NOT Katie. How could he? He has everything right in front of him. Katie is the perfect girl, gorgeous, kind, funny, smart... What else could he want? I opened up a message to Katie, but then remembered she was probably sleeping, there was quite a time difference. Well, this was going to make tomorrow even worse, great...
