Prologue1100 AD
"Queen," Bennett Thornton bowed his head in respect to the Queen of Vampires, Queen Isabella. The latter, however, disregarded his greeting. It was enough for him to know something was wrong. He waited patiently, hoping that eventually Queen would open up. When the possibilities of it happening seemed none, he spoke again.
"Queen," Concern marred his voice. But she kept her quiet. She couldn't speak. How could she? A strange emotion was swirling inside her; something she had never felt. Conflicting thoughts clouded her mind, making it hard for her to think straight.
Panic set deep when Queen lifted her head and locked gazes with Bennett. An emotion flashed in her eyes for a split of second, which didn't go unnoticed by him. It was something Bennett had never seen in his Queen's eyes. Fear.
He would never cross the line demarcated for everyone. But he felt the need to reassure her, to make her feel she wasn't alone. He placed his shaking hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes.
Queen, what's wrong? His unspoken question lingered in the air. And she knew she could trust him, her only friend with this.
"Éminences Grises*," Queen gulped. Bennett nodded, encouraging his friend to continue. A faraway look crossed her eyes.
"Bella," It shocked the both of them. Ages had passed since the last time he called her using that name. He had stopped calling her by that name the moment he found out she was his King's Soulmate. He referred to her as Queen ever since. But hearing it, she realised Bennett was being serious. So she voiced her concern.
"I received a note from them to pay a visit at earliest. An éminence grise has made a prediction. She..." Her voice faltered.
"She forebode something. An age old prophecy was worded," She worded the exact words of the Éminence Grise.
Heavy silence befell upon them. His hands fell to his sides. She stepped back and started pacing back and forth. She mulled over those words again and again. But it all came down to one thing. So she didn't waste a moment to decide.
"Bennett," Hearing his name made him snap out of his thoughts. He raised his eyes to meet the Queen's. He could see firmness swirling in those pools of blue orbs. She was certain of her decision. And maybe, this might turn out to be not so bad. Maybe this serves as the reason to put an end to the rivalry going on between some of them for centuries. Maybe this strengthens the relationship between some of them.
"Arrange a meeting of all the rulers of supernatural kingdom. All of them."
