Healing the Heart

Chapter 18

I sat nervously outside the Spring Rocks cafe. I sipped on my lemonade then I heard my name.

''Lauren Hartnett, please tell me what the hell is going on?''

I looked up to see Jamie Mann standing in front  of me. It clicked straightaway. I'm not sure exactly what it was but I just knew that he was the father of Kendall's baby. He was pale but too very pale and had darkish hair and blue eyes. 

''Jamie, hi. Take a seat'' I said

''I don't think we've ever talked before. Why did you insist I came all the way to Palm Springs is there an emergency?''

''Actaully there kind of is. This is going to sound so strange but I have questions to ask you...''

''Like what?'' He asked completely puzzled

''How long were you and Kendall going out?''

''Me and Kendall? About 8 months on and off. We were never exclusive I was seeing other girls too, why?''

''Well this is going to scare the life out of you but, you know how Kendall had her baby? Its not Stephens, we think its yours'' I said as I watched his face drop.

I know what your thinking, it wasn't my position to tell him, but if I didn't Stephen would still believe everything Kendall said and she would have reeled him in and got him attached to the baby thatsnot even his.

Jamie sighed heavily and put his face in his hands.

''Why do you think that?'' He asked

''She was eight months pregnant and only with Stephen 6, she was dating you before him and the baby is the image of you.''

''Really? Oh God what has Kendall said about this?''

''Shes trying to convince everyone its Stephens baby''

''What the hell am I going to do if it is my baby?'' Jamie asked, he was purely terrified

''Jamie don't worry, you'll have loads of support''

''Oh Jesus, my parents are going to kill me''

''What ever happened with you and Kendall?'' I asked nosily

''I don't know, we were hooking up on and off for those 6months or so then on new years I found her with Stephen then after that they were a couple, so it just ended I suppose. How is she?''

''Shes fine, well I think the baby is yours and she knows it. For some reason shes telling lies about it, I'm not sure why but these lies are building up and slowly driving her mad. Like shes having mood swings and shes real nasty all the time. She used to be the sweetest girl I had ever met.''

''Oh Kendall. I hope shes okay. Can I come see her?'' He asked

''Yeah, Stephens mam brought him out for dinner so you should have a good while to talk to her, lets go to the hospital now, are you sure your ready?''

''Positive'' He muttered

We drove to the hospital almost in silence, one because we didn't really know each other and second because Jamie had just found out he may be an 17 year old father. We were given permission to go straight into Kendalls room. She was feeding her baby. I had never seen a more horrendous look on anyones face as I did on Kendalls.

''What are you doing here?'' She asked then glared at me realising that I had brought him. 

I left the room and closed the door behind me but I once again stayed close enough to hear and see most of  their conversation.
