"Hey Suzy, I'm back like I promised. Someone wants to see you, do you want to go see him?" I ask as I glide into the room.
"Sure!" She says hoping off the small yellow bed. Before we get to the door, she grabs her coloring book and colored pencils.
Her small hand gripped mine as we walked down the narrow hallway. We come to a halt as we reached Connor's room.
"Are you ready sweetheart?" I asked looking down at the small child holding onto my hand.
"Yes." She squeaked.
I opened the door and reviled Connor laying in his bed. He was flipping through the channels as we approached him.
Connor's POV-
The small girl clinging to Lydia is so beautiful.
You killed that beautiful little girl's parents asshole.
"Hey. You must be Suzy. I'm Connor." I said with tears gathering in my eyes.
"Hi. I'm Suzy." She said in a tiny voice.
"How are you Suzy?"
"Okay. Mommy and Daddy are in the clouds now." She said climbing up into my bed. I moved my feet so that she could sit at the end with Lydia.
"Yeah. I know. I'm really sorry to hear that Suzy."
"Its okay." she said coloring in a coloring book.
"Did Lydia talk to you about coming to live with us?"
"Yes. I hope I can. Maybe we could go to the zoo and see the birds. I like birds." She said taking deep breaths after every other word.
"Yeah sweetie. Maybe we could." Lydia said rubbing Suzy's back.
A knock at the door interrupts our small talk.
"It's opened." I call to the thick wooden door.
"Excuse me. But is Lydia Rose in today?" A tall blonde woman asks politely.
"Yeah. I'm right here." Lydia said with a small smile. That smile brightens my day more than she'll ever know.
"Can I talk to you for a minute out in the hall?" The woman asks again.
"Yeah yeah. I'll be right out." Lydia said. The woman nodded and shut the door carefully.
"That's the social attorney. She is going to help me get you. I'll be right back, okay?"
"Okay." Suzy and I reply in unison.
Lydia made her way to the door and out into the hall. My attention turned to Suzy's small hands scrubbing in the book. I can't believe what I've done to her. I took her family away from her. Because I was an idiot. I still am. I'm a screw up. Just like my dad.
Lydia's POV-
"So we don't have to go to court? Like at all?" I asked Lindsey.
"Nope. She has no more family to go to. And you're arguing a strong point."
"So what? Tomorrow when they get released, we can just go to their house and get her stuff?"
"Yeah. And the parents didn't have a will, so she can get their money. Well you an Connor." She said writing their address on a piece if paper and handing it to me.
"Wow. I thought this would've been tougher." I slightly laughed.
"Yeah. Like I said. She doesn't have anymore family, so the jury would have sent her with you too anyways. Unless they are all asses and would have sent her to foster care." Lindsey laughed with me.
"Okay, well thank you Lindsey. See you later."
"Okay. Goodbye Lydia."
I giddily slid back into Connor's room with a grin smeared across my face.
"Are you alright?" Connor asked, breaking his eye contact with Suzy.
"Uhm. Yeah. Lindsey said it's okay that you come with us Suzy." Lydia squealed.
