Doris lets him shoo her out, but as she closes the door she says; "I'll be back-look at the state of this room Nate Brown!"
What? Nate Brown?
***********
"What?" I repeated for like the 5oth time today.Nate shook his head and mouthed at me; "She's a little confused."
I giggled as Doris whacked him with her duster as he closed the door.
"Ow..." Nate said, rubbing his head.
I put my hands on my hips. "Why did she say Brown instead of Jackson?"
Brown.... The name sounded familiar.
Nate shrugged. "Brown is a common name, I guess it's easier to remember than Jackson."
"Wait...Did you tell her your name was Nate Brown instead of Nate Jackson?"
Nate Brown...It sounded closer than before, but still wasn't ringing any memory bells.
Nate didn't answer.
I sighed and flopped onto the uncomfortable couch that had looked so tempting 5 minutes ago.
A smell wafted past my nose. Argh, I thought. What is that smell?
Uh. Me. I thought grimly.
I fingered my hair. Awhile ago it was dirty blonde, now it was just plain dirty!
I stood in front of Nate. "Where is the bathroom?"
***************
I ran my hands over my wet hair, spreading shampoo through.I grunted, noticing my hair was almost past my shoulders.
It was the 3rd day here, and I STILL didn't have any clean clothes. My coat was covered in dirt, my t-shirt just as grubby, and my jeans were soaked through.
Not to mention I hadn't exactly brought a bag full of under...stuff....When I ran away.
I sighed and turned off the water after rinsing the shampoo out.
Now I know some of you may be screaming; "WHAT? You have been kidnapped by a KILLER for 3 days and you're worrying about the fact you have no CLEAN CLOTHES?!"
Calm down and let me explain!
Over the past three days I had been thinking (and sleeping) lots.
What was the point of screaming, kicking and biting all the time if I could just as easily plan my escape calmly, and not risk injury while doing so?
But still, I did need some more clothes. I decided I was going to have to pressure Nate to take me shopping.
I know you're thinking; "Since when do kidnappers take their victims shopping?"
But I was not going to back down on this, and it's not like I would make him buy me clothes from Supre or Victoria's Secret or anything.
I can bet the other half of you are thinking: "Why not take the chance to get some awesome clothes, girl?!"
The reason was, strangely, I didn't want Nate spending loads on me.
I know it's not likely he would (the selfish jerk), but I had a feeling Doris would make him.
************
I trudged into the lounge. "Nate?"
He looked up from his book, seeming only mildly surprised that I was wearing only a towel. He raised an eyebrow.
I blushed slightly but stood my ground. I was not putting on dirty gross clothes.
"I need more clothes."
My captor smiled. "Of course darling, I'll just pull out my wallet and order you some from England, shall I?"
The sarcasm bounced off my determinedness.
I pressed on. "I'm serious, Nate, my old clothes are disgusting now."
Nate started reading again. "Well Boo hoo, Cass, I'm not a money machine."
Cass.
"D-don't call me that." Damn you stutter. My shield was weakening.
Nate didn't look up.
"Nate."
His black hair flopped over his face like a veil.
"Nate."
Big sigh from Nate. "Fine!" He pulled out an old Nokia phone and dialled a number. Nate pressed the phone to his ear.
"Hey, Nat, it's Nate."
"What do you want?" The unknown person said.
"I need you to take a..friend..of mine shopping."
The girl on the other end snorted. "I'm not your slave, Nate."
Nate sighed. "I'll pay you."
The next response was considerably chirpier.
"Of course I'll do it, Nate! When do you want me?"
