I swear Nate," Natalie hissed in my ear. "If you do not kill her soon, I will."

Cassie' s POV:

I woke up the next day, startled, to Doris gently shaking me awake. "Time to get up, dear." I rubbed  my eyes and pulled myself off the saggy couch. "Mmmmmahh." I stumbled over to Nate's room and knocked on the door. "Time to get up."

I could hear Nate tossing in his bed. "Mmmmahhhhhhh." He groaned.

I sat back down on my couch, yawning.

Jade and Natalie walked in, Jade's hair was back  to  the purple colour      and    Natalie was ignoring me as usual.

Nate was last to appear out of his room, his hair messy, still dressed in the black clothes from yesterday.

Doris watched us patiently as everyone else sat down. She brandished a pink feather duster at us, and said: "Right, now that you are all here, I have an important anncouncement to make! It's Cassie's 16th birthday today!"

Jade, Nate & Natalie all groaned triedly in chorus. I was silent.

"Which means," Doris continued, "That we all have to be especially nice to her today." She finished, glaring slightly at Natalie, who rolled her eyes.

"It's okay Doris, they don't have to do that." I said quietly.

Doris frowned. "Okay, but I will still make a cake-"

"Doris, please don't go to lots of trouble. Really. It's fine."

I was actually quite grateful that someone had remembered, and i hated hurting Doris's feelings like this, but I didn't feel like making a big deal of something that marked it as almost 3 months since I had been kidnapped, and without my family and friends surrounding me it didn't really feel like something worth celebrating.

Jade sighed heavily and stood up. "Cassie I like you and everything, but as a psyciatrist I have patients to get back to. Sorry."

I smiled. "It's okay Jade, I understand."

Doris muttered something while I looked down at my hands.

Natalie  smiled  fakely; "Don't worry Cassie-bear, I have absoloutly nothing else that I could be doing on this magnificnent day, so I will spend my precious time with you." Her voice dripped with sacrcasm.

"Quit it Natalie." Nate said, his tired emerald eyes fixed on me, as if he was reading my emotions.

Natalie looked hurt, then furious. "Whatever." She snapped, leaving the room along with Jade.

Doris looked defeated, and sat down heavily in a chair. "Sorry about her, Cassie."

I nodded, dreading every second more that this meeting dragged on.

Nate stood up saying nothing, and walked over to the kitchen.

I sighed and laid down on my couch. I felt numb to Natalies remarks and Nate's silence. I had gotten what I wanted, but i still felt lonely.

Nate appeared next to me, and handed me small green cupcake on a plate. It had a tiny candle on it.  "I remembered."
