With a silent battle cry, I flung open the door, brandishing my weapon.
My daughter stood in front of me, looking older and slightly alarmed.
The candlestick clattered to the floor.
"Cassie?"

Doris's POV:
After the kind (and slightly overweight) policeman helped me off the pavement, I tried to reassure him I was okay as quickly as possible .
"Are you sure you're okay, Mrs?" He gave me a searching look.
I waved him off gently. "A bit of a tumble is nothing to worry about, my dear."
He nodded and walked back to his car. "Have a nice night, ma'am."
I pretended not to hear him add in reply to my comment;"It is at your age."
Ha! Who needs policeman anyway?
I walked slowly towards Cassie's flat. I will conserve my energy until I hear the signal, I decided.

Jade's POV:
A quick glance behind me confirmed that Doris was slowly following not far behind.
Suddenly I remembered something. I was supposed to get in an argument with the policeman!
I wanted to slap my own forehead. Unprofessional! I thought.
I ground my teeth together. Time for some quick thinking. Don't get yourself arrested.
I pulled out my sleek black cellphone. I quickly speed-dialled Doris.
No answer.
Damn. She must've turned it off.
I ground my teeth together again in frustration. I'll have to think on my own.
I glanced quickly behind. Doris was plodding along calmly, and the policeman was back in his car.
Time to act. Something to keep the policeman busy...

Natalie's POV:
Nate & I were crouched silently in a lavender bush next to Cathy's flat.
The sweet odour filled my nostrils. Sweet, like lollies. Like victory. Kike revenge. Like-
Argh. Focus!
I turned to Nate.
He was dressed completely in black, a neutral expression on his face. His eyebrows were pressed together slightly, and his emerald eyes were concealed by dark sunglasses.
"Nate?" I whispered.
His eyebrows scrunched together more , before he took of his sunglasses.
"What?" He whispered.
I stifled a gasp at his dazzling emerald green eyes.
Keep it together, Nat.
"Do..Do you have feelings for Cassie?" I held my breath.
The emeralds seem to burn into me for ages before Nate opened his mouth.
Suddenly there was a bang.
A hopeful and disbelieving voice, from up above, in the doorway.
"Cassie?"
*********************
Cassie's POV:
I crept up the worn front steps. I winced as they creaked and moaned loudly.
I glanced around nervously.
I could hear some whispering in a bush nearby, and I rolled my eyes. Nate & Natalie. They had better be ready.
My heartbeat skipped and jumped as I realised I was going to see my mum again, after about a month of being kidnapped. It seemed like longer.
'Concentrate, Cassie,' I imagined Colin saying. How long had it been since I had seen him? What about Holly & Lucas?
I shook my head and remembered my part of the plan.
I recalled Nate saying:
"Your mother will not be thinking sensibly over the joy of seeing you again, so it should be easy to tempt her outside."
He made her sound like some dumb sheep.
I shook my head again. I mentally scolded myself. Concentrate!
I raised my hand to knock gently at the dark wooden door, but approaching footsteps from inside made me hesitate.
I barely had time to jump out of the way before the front door was flung open.
Mum.
Her curly hair was in knots and sticking up at odd angles, and she had a wild but terrified look on her face.
The candle stick she was brandishing dropped to the ground with a bang when she saw me. Her mouth opened wide.
"Cassie?" My mother asked, the words seeming familiar but also strange coming from her mouth.
Joy and relief erupted from inside me, and I had to scream mentally to stop myself from plunging into her warm arms.
Guilt poured into my stomach as I said; "Come here mum." Surprisingly my voice sounded calm.
I stepped back slightly.
"Cassie!" She shouted, before lunging at me. Her arms wrapped around me for a single second before being torn away by Nate.
"Cassie!" I closed my eyes and turned away as Natalie helped Nate drag my mother towards an awaiting car, the alarm blaring.
"Cassie!" It was almost a scream now, and I scrunched my eyes tighter.
I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. Doris. Her eyes were filled with sadness.
"Cassie!" I could hear distant police car sirens coming closer, we had to hurry.

Here it is finally! The next chapter! This chapter is dedicated to my Book Club buddies, who (for some strange reason) let me read a chapter of my series each time we get together. So far we are working our way through Finding The Black Shadow...Meep..
I'm so so sorry if this chappy doesn't make any sense, I've been adding bits to it every so often when I get the chance and trying to stick to my plan.
Also its currently 11:20something pm here in the land of the long white cloud, and my eyes feel like sandpaper.
I bet tomorrow when I re-read this I'll mentally slap myself with my own gumboot for making so many mistakes etc, but oh well.
MEEEEEP!
