Nate took a sip of coffee and looked around at us.*************
Cathy's POV:"So what would you say has been bothering you the most lately, Mrs Brooke?" Melissa asked, resting her head on her hands.
I gave her my best blank look. My voice wouldn't work anyway.
Melissa cleared her throat awkwardly, thickening the ice.
I tried again. "I-I..." Melissa gave me a warm smile. "I..Well..I-I guess I just m-miss my daughter at the moment."
Melissa's smile faded a little bit.
"Side burns, on the side of my face, as my heaaad turns-"*
Melissa blushed and pulled her iPhone out of her bag. "Sorry Cathy, I have to take this. Wait here, okay?"
I nodded as Melissa hurried out the back door , phone pressed to her ear.
My fingers tapped my thigh anxiously as I waited for Melissa. I was always anxious bring left alone lately.
"No, I'm sorry but I have to help a client at the moment. Why don't we catch up tonight?"
There was quiet. "Look, Toby, I just need your support right now okay-No, you listen!"
I stopped listening.
Creeeaaaaaak.
I froze. That's the sound the front deck makes sometimes.
It's normal. Probably just the wind... I thought, trying to reassure myself.
Creeeaaaak.
There it is again. Almost like someone's sneaking up the deck steps....
My eyes widened at the thought. A burgular? A thief?
I shuddered, a draft sweeping over me.
A thought struck me suddenly. I gasped in terror silently. The Black Shadow?
I tried to call for Melissa, but my voice wasn't working. I waved my arms frantically out the window, but her back was turned. Tears ran down my face.
Was I done for?
Grabbing a candlestick as a weapon, I sneaked into the hallway. I'm not going down easy.

The Policemans POV:I sipped my coffee and let my eyes scan over the street for any suspicious activity. My position on the corner of Joan Ave was perfect.

The sound of high heels echoed down the street towards me. A lady in a short business suit was approaching from behind.I watched her in my rear-view mirror.
Her long black hair was tied up in a bun, and her milk chocolate skin blended perfectly into the night.
If it hadn't been for the street lights and the dazzling white hand bag she was holding, I may never of noticed her.
From the same direction, a elderly woman appeared, clutching a large red handbag like a lifeline.
She moved slowly out of her driveway that was full of weeds, and into the approaching woman's path.
The elderly woman with bright white hair seemed oblivious to the stranger coming closer.

The two woman reached the curb at the same time, showing that they both wanted to cross there.
I saw the old woman whisper something inaudible to the business woman.
The business woman, seemingly not having heard the old ladies request, snapped; "What?"
The snow haired woman tried again, this time loud enough for me to hear. "Could you please help me cross the street, young miss?"
I raised my eyebrow slightly. The business woman didn't look like the type to help fragile old ladies.
But the old lady seem to remain hopeful, peering up at the young woman.
After a moments hesitation, the young business woman refused, and pushed her way past the old lady.
Like in slow-motion, as the business woman pushed past, the old woman fell to the ground with a thud and a grunt.
That's it. I decided.
I clambered out my police car, notebook in hand and handcuffs attached to my belt.
The business woman looked back as my car door slammed, slightly alarmed, but continued to hurry across the road. What was that woman's hurry?

Cathy's POVI inched further down the hallway, praying silently that any moment Melissa would come in and save me.
Creeeaaaakkkkk.
I gasped. How far away from the door are they? Would I be able to knock them out with this??
My shaking fingers closed around the front doorknob. I took a deep breath.
With a silent battle cry, I flung open the door, brandishing my weapon.
My daughter stood in front of me, looking older and slightly alarmed.
The candlestick clattered to the floor.
"Cassie?"
