Meeting Matt

Nora stared out the window of the car watching the palm trees roll by. She hadn't even seen a palm tree since she went to Fort Lauderdale last summer. The air smelled like the ocean and the sky was beautiful. She watched as the dingy neighborhoods turned into nice subdivisions, then they came up to a big gated community. 

The driver punched a number into the keypad and the gate slowly swung open. 

"This must be Matt's neighborhood" Nora reasoned. 

They slowly drove around some curvy roads until they pulled up to a big, beautiful brick house with a huge gate around it.

The driver pushed a button and said into the speaker, "I'm here with your friend, Mr. Sanders."

"Great I'll buzz you in" a voice responded.

Nora's heart suddenly leaped into her throat. 

"Oh God, I'm about to meet M Shadows! What do I call him? Oh my God I bet I look terrible! I haven't even looked in the mirror since I was on the plane! Do I smell okay? Holy shit this is too much!" Nora's thoughts were running around her mind, making her self conscious and suddenly terrified.

She didn't have much time to be scared though because the driver was getting out and getting her bags. She tried to catch a peek of herself in the rear-view mirror , her hair looked alright. She decided to dig an Altoids mint from her purse as well, just in case. 

Nora took a deep breath and opened the door to help get her bags out. As they lugged her things into the garage she thanked the driver profusely. Then she heard the door open.

"Thanks so much for picking up my friend, I appreciate it" Matt said as he tipped the driver.

"No problem sir, thank you" responded the driver as he headed back toward his car.

Nora turned around and there he was. She was actually a bit taken back by his appearance, she obviously knew he was attractive but he was taller than she imagined and his commanding stature combined with his cute smile made her feel a bit woozy. Maybe it was the heat.

Nora decided to speak first. "Hey, I'm Nora. Thanks so much for inviting me here", she said as she stuck out her hand.

"Of course, thanks for agreeing to come out and work with us" Matt said as he took Nora's hand, "the rest of the guys will be here later, come on inside I'll get you a drink." 

As they walked inside Nora had the craziest feeling that this wasn't even real. She still couldn't believe it.

Matt's house was so giant and beautiful but strangely empty. Then she remembered reading something about him getting divorced a while back.

"That explains a lot", Nora thought, "that's why there's hardly anything in here and the fridge only has beer and leftover Chinese food in it."

She made her way from the bathroom back to the kitchen table where her and Matt had been talking. Maybe it was the beer but it seemed like the conversation was flowing well, she'd been nervous they wouldn't have a lot in common.

They discussed Nora's YouTube channel with her covers and original content. Apparently her cover of "Buried Alive" had caught their attention and when they heard her original stuff they knew she was the one they wanted to work with. They had been looking for some new talent for a fan driven album they were writing.

Nora had no idea what that meant, she was just happy to be a part of it.
